So the focus of this generation of games has clearly been on shooters, and if I remember last generation it was J RPGs (Correct me if you think otherwise, my memory aint' so hot) and the N64 era was the era of the 3d platformer.

What do you think the next generation of consoles will focus on?

Fishing games, because by then Global Warming will have melted the ice caps and inundated most of the continental land masses.

The trend for gritty, grey, realistic first-person shooters will have died out, but for some reason a lot of people will still play COD4.

No point guessing about the future, but if I had to say, it would probably be very similar to this generation, but with better graphics. Which will be outdated by PC standards in a couple months.

Yay PC gaming!
Oh no, what have you done..!?

Although I do agree. Maybe RPGs and FPSs will become more closely linked, and just better generally.

We can dream, we can dream.

Hmmm. . . I never thought about this before.

Since the focus on shooters in this generation was probably caused by the last-gen realization that 2 thumb/analog/joy sticks (depending on your terminology) are preferred in a console shooter based on the Halo 2 phenomenon on Xbox, I would surmise that the next generation would focus on high-speed action games because of the recent innovations made in that, "speedy," feeling in games like Mirror's Edge and Sonic Unleashed (Werehog notwithstanding).

Size and graphics. I think most games will just try to be bigger than one another and look better. I think it's going to get to a point where it's just people trying to show off.

I really wish next generation will be aiming towards cinematic games like Heavy Rain or whatever. I want to play a linear story based horror game like if Resident Evil actually had a story not written by a three year old.

Aint isn't a word. On topic it will probably focus on shooters even more but this time with less story. :D

I took the thread and punted it across the flaming field of the PC/Console War, what does it look like I've done?!

Rawr!
Oh Psh. Naughty.

Did you remember to wrap it in escapist brand fire-retardant rags first? It's gonna burn otherwise!

I really hope that the trend of dark colors and tones leaves us ASAP. I love bright colors in games and the games with dark colors or drab landscapes just turn me off.

It will probably be more fucused on user-created content.

I just hope that there will be less games who's primary colors will more than brown, grey, and any other dull one-color enviornments.

Actually a word is:

Wikipedia said:
A word is a unit of language that represents a concept which can be expressively communicated with meaning.
If you understood what he said, it's a word. If other people understand what he said, it's a word.

Take that grammar nazi!
Curses my plan is foiled... for now.

Gaming is like music. Often we go into these Renaissance periods of bringing back old games with a slightly newer polish.

If I had to guess, based on present trends, I'd say that we're due for some sort of LucasArts half-text, half-graphical adventure revival.

Or it's going to be a bunch of silly Indie games that people with more imagination than the entire gaming division under a corporation has combined. Which will be a strange combination of platform, puzzle, mini-game, musical RPGs or something like that.

Hopefully my dream will come true, and a slow zombie game genre will develop.

But likely more WoW knock-offs and first-person shooters.

Next generation will be rhythm-music games, we have only seen the tip of the iceberg thus far.

OP is right, Last gen was RPGs - GC had a ton of Zelda games, PS2 had (not the) Final Fantasy, XBox had Kotor and the almighty Morrowind

ain't

One entry found.

Main Entry: ain't
Pronunciation: \ˈânt\
Etymology: contraction of are not
Date: 1749
1 : am not : are not : is not
2 : have not : has not
3 : do not : does not : did not ?used in some varieties of Black English
usage Although widely disapproved as nonstandard and more common in the habitual speech of the less educated, ain't in senses 1 and 2 is flourishing in American English. It is used in both speech and writing to catch attention and to gain emphasis <the wackiness of movies, once so deliciously amusing, ain't funny anymore ? Richard Schickel> <I am telling you?there ain't going to be any blackmail ? R. M. Nixon>. It is used especially in journalistic prose as part of a consistently informal style <the creative process ain't easy ? Mike Royko>. This informal ain't is commonly distinguished from habitual ain't by its frequent occurrence in fixed constructions and phrases <well?class it ain't ? Cleveland Amory> <for money? say it ain't so, Jimmy! ? Andy Rooney> <you ain't seen nothing yet> <that ain't hay> <two out of three ain't bad> <if it ain't broke, don't fix it>. In fiction ain't is used for purposes of characterization; in familiar correspondence it tends to be the mark of a warm personal friendship. It is also used for metrical reasons in popular songs <Ain't She Sweet> <It Ain't Necessarily So>. Our evidence shows British use to be much the same as American.

Webster's acknowledged ain't and put it in the dictionary. Ain't is a word. [/arguement]

Thank you for the dictionary definition and for backing me up. However, a word doesn't need to be in a dictionary for it to be a word either so long as people acknowledge it to have a meaning.
I didn't do it for you, I did it for me. It felt so... deliciously naughty.
