Billy Zane. Because that would be absolutely hilarious.

Alternatively, Craig Conway, although he's not a "known name," and therefore would never get it. Elba would be cool with me, too.

However, all three of those picks will likely be too old to really take over the role after Craig, considering he's still signed on for two more films after Skyfall, which could take another 6 years or so. You really want someone taking over for multiple films starting at the age of 46+?

I kinda get the feeling I'm falling into a trap here, but I honestly can't see James Bond as a black guy.

Not racist, I just think that some things are what they are.

Ooohh...I know, I know, let's cast Damian Lewis as the lead in the next Shaft movie!!

I was confused as hell for a minute, as I recognise that name as a footballer as opposed to an actor =P

Actually I'm finding it difficult to think of someone relatively young and British. Tom Hardy?

EDIT: Thought of another possible one, Tom Hiddleston.

Definitely Tom anyway.

I don't see any reason why Bond has to be a white guy. Shaft is probably the most famous blaxploitation character and the fact that he is specifically an African American private detective is pretty central part of his characterization, just as "being British" is a central part of Bond's characterization. As long as the actor is British, I don't see any issues with casting a black Bond.

Apart from the fact he's white. He was written that way!

There's no denying Idris Elba has great charisma, and looks great in a suit. But bond's a posh white guy.

I think Tom Hardy is pretty up and coming, The fact that I'm straight and I'd still do mad things to his Anus may have something to do with that.

and while Idris Elba is fucking Boss, I cannot see a Black guy as bond (Hope to see more of Heimdal(sp?) in Thor 2.

I've just realised that if he was cast as Bond, this would be the second time he's portrayed a typically white character.

I just don't think being white is that vital part of the character. James Bond was also originally written as a black haired man and neither Roger Moore nor Daniel Craig has black hair. I mean I understand that casting Elba or some other non-white actor would not sit well with a lot of Bond-fans but I just personally wouldn't have any problem with it.

I think any non-white actor would be a very hard sell, and if you had the right one I wouldn't nessecarily be opposed to him. That said I don't think Elba would suit the role, I think he would make a fantastic Bond-Villain, but he's missing that "Je ne sais quoi" i associate with Bond, I also think Craig is missing it, so that doesnt nessecarily rule Elba out. I can only think of perhaps Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender, though given when Craig's contract is up, they both might be a bit old, but I'm sure we'll get some fresh new british talent before then so nothing to worry about

Much of Bond's physical appearence was left ambiguous in the books, and even if it had been specifically stated that he was white, the films have never had many qualms before about deviating from Fleming's vision.

I actually think Damian Lewis, as jokingly mentioned for Shaft above, would make a fantastic Bond. Hardy and Elba would be great too, as would Richard Armitage(sp?).

EDIT: and Fassbander too. Damn, I don't want to be the guy who has the job of choosing the next one.

Eh, I don't see why Bond has to be white, but then I always liked the theory that 'James Bond' is just a codename different agents use.

He won't be black... ever.
He's too iconic to change his race.

Tom Hardy is, at the moment, a likely pick.
I always wanted to see Clive Owen as Bond but he'll be too old by the time Craig steps down (plus the studio is negotiating a contract for 5 more movies with Craig) so that's never going to happen.
In the next 5 years, maybe some other British that fits the role will become known but I think Hardy is a sure shot.

If we're deviating from the norm then I want to see Keith David (Not British I know but, shutup)as Bond. His voice alone sells him... Though he might actually be a better villain.

Him or Rowan Atkinson for shits and giggles.

While I like Tom Hardy as an actor I don't think he'd be a good Bond. Fassbender on the other hand, I could definitely see.

Although too be honest, I'd rather the salary of the next actor be put towards finding ways of Daniel Craig being kept alive forever.

I don't see Idris Elba being a good fit. While he certainly has charisma to boot, it doesn't seem to be the "ladies man" type of charisma. I think he has too much "presence" as an actor. A good Bond has the subtle way of moving about scenes. Idris has this really intimidating feel to him that I'm not sure works for the common man's interpretation of Bond.

Then again, I don't really have any suitable suggestions to the contrary and I'm not a casting director.

While the idea of a black Bond certainly could work, the character is stated to have a scottish father and a swiss mother. Not very likely to be anything but white, unless his father turned out to be The Demo from TF2 (which would be amazing.)

I like the cut of your jib Slayer. Before Craig was chosen there were some talks that Hugh Jackman was up for the job. I support my fellow Australians so theres my vote. Personally I would like to see the franchise take a different route. Back when Pierce Bronson was new to the tux, Quentin Tarrantino had an idea to take it back to the 60's but grittier. Something along the lines of what would become the Bourne Identity and the Incredibles (set wise anyways). That would be awesome to see.

David Tennant. Because the guy hasn't gotten to do anything since Fright Night, and that's pretty sad.

Great, now I just see him walking calmly out of a Paris stronghold before saying smoothly:

"Allon-sy"

-cue gigantic explosion behind him-
