There have been many rumours about the next X-box about what it will be named, look like, play like, and when it will come out.
Although some suggest that there may not be a X-Box for a long time because of the economic market.
As a example, the nintendo 3-DS has amazing non glasses required 3D technology but the sales weren't as good as expected.
Mostly because many could not afford it.
So could microsoft afford to release a new X-Box with in the next year or 2 when we a perfectly happy with the normal X-Box 360 (slim)?

Main question:But now its mostly speculations and rumours but what to you wish that the new X-Box will have?

Give it a bit more time. About 3 years will do. (2013-14)

I think it will either be called:

Xbox720, Xbox Ring, or Xbox Future

It will still be a box but they will probobly keep the sleek design idea of the 360.

The Next xbox will be called the Nextbox. Heyoo.

I'd rather they not release a new system, I like what the 360 has going for it right now. For the most part atleast.

Personally I think Microsoft (and Sony for that matter) should consider a physics accelerator. If only one console has this it will really make them stand out, and high quality physics opens up a lot of great gameplay options.

Let's predict the future. Because we all know how well it works. [http://www.manolith.com/2009/07/30/pending-future-technologies/]
Seriously, there's no point in trying to predict what will be the next Xbox called or what will it do. We have no idea what technologies might be discovered in THIS year, not to mention next few years...

The Sony Wii-Box.

And now, everyone here who reads Schlock Mercenary will laugh while the rest just scratch their heads in confusion.

Nija'd! I concur. The possibilities that hardware accelerated physics offer are limited by the immagination!

If only there were a machine that did that already. Like you know, a card, that lived inside a bigger system.

I predict that Microsoft will go out of business and there won't be another ecksbawks.
That may just be wishful thinking on my part though ...

it feels like gaming tech cant really get any better at this point lol i wish i had an idea, but i dont.

wifi as always, bluray, internet connection/browsing...its basically pc's mixing into gaming consoles i think. and then....virtual reality after that probably XD

Its probably going to be something like the Kinect-Box, or the KineBox or something. It's probably going to be slightly more powerful than the current X-Box and feature a heavy emphasis on motion controls and the Kinect.

Not the most practical attitude for Microsoft, the biggest reason why they'd create a new system is because of new technology. The 360 is already starting to look very dated graphically, especially considering many PC game ports (Such as the Witcher 2) have to downgrade their graphics for that system.

It's going to happen one way or the other, the only question is who will sell better and when which console will come out first.

Considering Nintendo's attempt at Virtual Reality failed almost immediately after it started, yeah I think developers are staying away from that as best as possible. Seems to be a lot more science fiction at the moment then practical.

Those things were mixed into consoles because they became popular. Wifi became popular for laptop users so they naturally blended them into consoles. Bluray won the format war so naturally developers wanted to use that as a selling point. Internet connectivity/browsing became more possible with better technology and became an exciting selling point (You don't necessarily need to just play games, attracts casual gamers and immediately brings you an entirely new demographic).

All of these things are just mixed into gaming consoles because it'll attract more sales. Like with how developers are trying to mix things like Facebook and social media into video games now because it's radically popular.

The current speculation is that the next Xbox will run Windows 8. There were a few articles about it a few weeks ago.

If that's the case it will basically be a gaming PC with no user modifiable parts.

I'll try my own poke at prediction. First and foremost, the Xbox 360 has an expected 10 year lifespan, which puts the next console at 2015.

Name: Xbox Fusion or Microsoft Nexus
I expect microsoft to use a title that reflects a device that is much more than a gaming platform. The next xbox may become a media device with functioning web-browsing, and further connectivity. They may even drop the Xbox name entirely.

Release Date: October 2015

Hardware: Controllers in addition to a media controller (perhaps sold separately). Media controller will probably be a wireless touchscreen device for using xbox as a media center/web browser. Game controllers may also feature a touch screen. DirectX 11 (possibly 12), with a focus on multi-threaded rendering.
Specs: 4.0ghz hexacore, 6gb RAM, 500/250gb SSD, blue ray OD, and HDMI output.

Functionality: Modified windows 7 architecture. Browser, email, social networking, Netflix, and access to app store. Games will be downloaded directly to the device for the most part, with a selection of Free-To-Play titles with "xbox live" subscription.

TL;DR:
The next xbox will be equal to a $1000 media center available today, with the addition of touch interfaces, and a modified Windows 7 OS.

I'm quite aware that such cards have been available for some time, but they haven't yet become widespread. If MS or Sony (or preferably both) were to include one in their next console I suspect the cards would become prevalent quite quickly.

When video accelerators were entering the market games had to support those without 3D accelerators as well, or lose a large chunk of the market. However graphics are easily scaled - those without accelerators would need to run on a smaller resolution and perhaps with simpler textures loaded, but they could still run and enjoy the game. With physics most of the really good stuff isn't scalable, because physics systems work best when it actually impacts gameplay. Some things are aesthetic, like attaching a physics system to animations and some environmental effects (funny enough, much of what we're seeing now). But if you want to make a game that utilizes what a physics card will give you gamers without one won't be able to play.

If only one major console included a physics card this could cause some problems with cross-platform developement, but I think we'd see PC acceptance rise quite quickly.
