i decided after my comments in "the best books no one knows about" topic to actually make the night angel trilogy thread i talked about. this thread will contain major spoilers so if you haven't finished the series i would suggest you turn back now because i will talk about things that you will need to finish the last book to really get. last warning, if you don't want the books spoiled for you, stop reading and go check another thread.
anyway, i have a few qualms with the last book of the series, even though i liked it more then the first one but not quite as much as the second. first of all, kylar threw away everything he had ever wanted for luc graesin? luc fucking graesin? i remember after reading this part just repeating to myself "holy shit kylar, you could not be stupider. of all the people to sacrifice a death for, you chose luc graesin? a bowl movement you had during the second book was more important then him." not to mention that even though kylar didn't know it at the time (and neither did i as the reader) but this was the death that would eventually kill elene. i was also dissapointed in the fact that the wolf wasn't really all that evil at the end of the "beyond the shadows". after durzo's words at the end of "the way of shadows" i expected for him to be the main villian and to use the dark hunter to attempt to control everything. instead a random name from the begining of the first book turned out to be kahli and a whole buch of stuff that had only very vague hints at best turned out to determine the outcome of the series. also durzo flying in to save kylar from the titan is the very definition of deus ex machina. well, thats it for my dissapointments with "beyond the shadows". maybe i will reread the first two books and disect them enough to find more problems with them.
