To say that humanity's position was hopeless was an understatement. but humanity had survived this far. This land had been at war for what seemed like all of history., through the nature of the war had always been different. For the last millenia, until the advent of the night a half dozen months ago, this cycle of endless but known war had gone on. The night was not as it had been, Before, it had been a lull in the warfare, a chance for soldiers to rest, and gather for early morning attacks. Now the night was the height of the fighting. The crucible of war, and the brief day, getting shorter as the cold of winter descended, was the time to mourn the dead, and shore up the defenses for the coming onslaught.
The Night, that is to say, the horrors of the Night, had come from beyond the horizon. What was beyond the horizon was not to said, for No one amongst the general populace knew. For what need was there for exploration, when there was the fight to fight. There was no science, no great paintings, no culture, there was only the religion of war. But It a different beast, the night, from what the populace of the kingdom of the Ksars had thought before. The Hurlack, the 100 cities, even the savage barbarians from the morrow, they were all known enemy's, human enemy's, they could be reasoned with, their numbers overcome, their cities conquered. But the night was unknown, there was no stemming their endless hordes, no reasoning with their hidden leaders. Were their even leaders to the night? there had to be, for every living being had a ruler, someone or something at the top.
The night had come streaming, almost like a unstoppable force, into the lands of the day, the lands of man. The Hurlack army's had been crushed, their last legions fighting their new war with their old tactics at the gates of their elder mountain cities. the hundred cities had been reduced to a half dozen fortified citadel towns in a matter of weeks. And then the night had turned south, to the lands of Ksar. Of any nation, the Ksar stood the greatest chance. Had not it been the armies of the Ksar who had fought and won in the last war against armies from half a dozen country's, empires, and states. But not even the Ksar could withhold the night.

the game will start At the very start of the invasion of the Night.
Technology wise, Hurghost is at a ww1 level, this is going backwards, as the endless wars was trudge on, and resources run out.

The land of the western Hurghost is varied and eclectic. The southern country's, are lush and green, with massive forests with the Hazarn mountain range separating the kingdom of the Ksars from their wayward western province. As you head north, along the boarder between the 1000 cities and the kingdom of the Ksars, you'll come across the Oryan buffers, a confusing range of mountains and rivers, which form a natural border. north of the Oryan, the land becomes open, able to support a much larger population is present, in the east there lies the Helar plateau.
The 1000 cities: the most populated of the country's of the Hurghost, the 1000 cities are an industrial power house. Originally an alliance during the war of blood, after that devastating war, they came together as a trading alliance as well. Through really a number of allied citie states and dukedoms, the 1000 cities is for all intents and purpaces a single country. Most of the country is made up of ethnic Lorions, through in the north there are morrow barbarians. and in the south several states with mostly ethnic Ksars. In the major cities there are a number of Zulan trading familys, through the number of them in the whole of the 1000 cities would not extend past 20,000. The military of the 1000 cities is made of small professional cities army's, and large mercenary bands.
The United Hurlack states:The Hurlack states are a gathering of ethnic Hurlack citadel-cities on the Helar plateau, they provide most of the iron and metals in the Hurghost. The Hurlack are ruled from the citadel of Galor, by their lords Parliament.
The Steel holds: The last of the despot empires of the war of blood, not much comes in and out of the steel holds. the countryside is deserted, and the cities closed to outsiders.
Kzhard: The rebelliously western province of the Ksar kingdom, the Kzhard dukedom is ruled by the young lord Hellbridge, who defeated the grand Ksar army 5 years ago at the battle of the helm. Made up mostly of ethnic Ksars, theres a large Lorion population, and the province of Zular is almost purely Zulanian.
the kingdom of the Ksar: Ruled from the citie of Ksar Milan, the Ksar are a kingdom of lumberjacks and hunters, with large cities on the coast. Mostly ethnic Ksar, theres a small morrow barbarian tribe rumored to make their home in the hills Kisesh.
