Am I a noob? Are you a noob? Maybe we all are..

The point I'm getting at is I don't really know what noob means anymore. It used to mean someone who was new to the game and had no idea what was going on. But now... as I said I don't know. I can go on MW2 and get 30-5 on a free for all and someone will call me a noob, which doesn't make any sense (in the words of my good friend: WAH TEH EFF). Can someone clarify what noob means.

Cheers x

Its just another insult in the catalog now.

Like many other words noob's definition depends on the context which it is used in.

I believe noob is an insult, and newb is supposted to be saying someone who is new. You can't really tell the difference verbally, though typing you can.

This is just some person trying to make themselves feel better about losing. Stupid people tend to insult whoever beat them to make themselves feel better, I don't know why, it is just a pattern I noticed.

Newb: Inexperienced, learning to play the game competently, willing to learn from people who give them advice.

Noob: Inexperienced, not bothering to learn how to play well. Generally rude to people who try to give them advice, likely to complain when more skilled players kill them. Will usually call "noob" on those using legitimate game tactics to win ("1887 akimbo is noob" for example. No they're not, you're just not killing them before they have a chance to fire them.)

It doesn't matter how good you get at something, some child, or childish person will call you a noob, it has no meaning just ignore it. Or say something wittier back, like boon to make them scrsatch there heads or neandathal as people rarely know what one is for some reason.

while racing grid:
Noob: hehe I am in front of you
me: so?
noob: you are a noob, you suck, you can't pass me
me: (in a very sarcastic tone) yo do realize I have a lap advantage over you
noob: f... you, you !"#!"$%"#$%%(here he starts a rant with racist comments included)
me: I still win

yeah, that's a noob

I have to agree with your definitions on the Newb/Noob thing. In essence we were all newbs once and should show compassion and be helpful to new players who are trying to learn the game.

Yeah, Noob for an insult, Newb for the newbies. You can call them a Nub if you want to be really arrogant though.

Newb/Newbie: A new player to a game, doesn't know how to play it, but learning it. Often welcomes hints and tips if you have them, is an average nice player.

Noob: A new/veteran player that is not as good in this game as he claim/think, complains when other people make mistakes and blames others when he does it. Will mostly be a complete ass throughout the game, eagerly telling people they are "noob campers" or "hackers" for no other reason that the noob got killed by them. Effective noob repelants: Talk back cleverly, 1 hour experience in said game.

Noob, it's what people call me because I'm much better than they are.

I guess people don't like being dominated, so they cry about it.

It's just used by people to describe new players. I've been called a noob even when i have played the game for a long time.

This pretty much summarises my feelings on the noob/newb situation. I've dealt with plenty of newbs, and I always try to be helpful and friendly. Unfortunately I've also dealt with plenty of noobs, who are just jackasses.
