Okay, so this might come as a shocker to some of the other Oblivion fans out there, but to be honest, i have never once in my entire career of playing Oblivion have i used the fast travel system. I personally feel like im cheating and its takes away from the escapism and immersion. I've always bought a black or white horse, depending one weather im playing a good or bad character.

So i was just wondering, is there anybody else out there that feels the same way i do, and doesn't bother to use the fast travel system?
I do, just to avoid seeing the same god-damn meadow and Oblivion's other bland and copy-pasted terrain. Morrowind solved the travelling excelently.

BTW: Love your avatar :)
sweet, finally someone else recognizes good ole Jiub.

I did originally however I found it took away from the vastness of the world.
The last time I played oblivion I only fast traveled to Cities and then rode/ran from there.

What I would like to have in games like this is to make fast-travel to any city available, but nowhere else.
Horses should then be MUCH faster, but only while on roads or something along those lines. That way it would encourage the use of a horse to get between places quickly but you would still have to walk in the bushes on foot.

I also think that locations should not be placed on your map (at least not exactly) and you would then have to use some orienteering or follow directions to places. That would make the world seem a lot bigger, and much more detailed.

Yeah, I felt like a tool whenever I would use the fast-travel for everything. The biggest reason being is because of the boring and samey landscape. I had to actually remind myself "It's not technically repeating the same area over and over again. I mean, there are different climates on every corner of the map, with snow covered mountains near Bruma, the golden plains near Anvil, the marshes in Leyawiin, the lakes, the ocean beaches..." It was no use. I still felt like the entire countryside was one giant wooded field with a few bodies of water.

But you know, I feel like Bethesda got this one fixed in the Fallout games. The change of having the only "discovered" fast-travel location being where you start the game is a hell of an improvement compared to having access to every single major city from the beginning. Looking for new places was exciting because it was always a different experience with it's own story, not the same damn Ayleid ruin over and over again.

I have high hopes for Skyrim and all the new unique locations for those of us with wander lust.

Yep. Not everyone wants to walk everywhere for the sake of immersion. I think they did a good job with a system in that you could already travel to every major city but not anywhere else without finding the location. Made sense to me.

What I actually dislike more about the game is being level 5 and being seemingly unable to kill most mobs, yet being 2-3 shot by them because I didn't min/max or 5/5/5. It's severely off-putting.

Fallout 3, New vegas, Oblivion I use the fast travel system only once I've explored the majority of the map...I cant believe how powerful and rich I became just traveling around collecting plants getting secret treasures every where...
The same for FO3 and New vegas.

I don't use it. Because its cheating. And if you use it, you're a cheater and should feel bad about yourself.
Yeah, I'm not going to lie, I not only loved fast travel on the world map, but I wish that you could fast travel while inside cities from building to building. I mean, cmon, I don't want to walk all the way to the mages guild, just let me fast travel there.

Hell, I'd probably fast travel to somewhere even if it took longer to load then walk...

Eh, I use it 'cos it's part of the game.

What annoys me about it, however, is being able to fast travel unscathed, and encountering bandits and bears or whatever if I walk.

So ... I sorta want a fast travel system that gets interrupted by encounters.

I tried not using it at first, then I had to do the "Get allies for Bruma" quest so I said "F- it Im not doing all of that!" Then I started using it...in Skyrim it would be good to have quick travel exept it can be interrupted by bandits, monsters, dragons or special events...also have a camp interaction where you can set up camp please and chill around a fire!

I tried not to use it, but after a few hours of the same boring landscape I got tired and started using it... It does feel like cheating but it's not the player's fault that the game sucks so we are forced to use it.

I would have used my horse...but Shadowmere chose to fuck me over around the time I was doing one of the Daedric quests....

Needless to say....Screw Horses....

I want a Guar to ride....then I wont need your stupid fast travel

Adding! Once they added in Fast Travel I was blessed....no longer the 20min flying leaps from Telvani towns....no longer flying thru the air as Cliffracers decided to teabag me...

Yes but only because Cyrodill is the most boring place ever. I swear the first five minutes walking anywhere from the starting point is just hills, grass, and trees. Even the dungeons are almost identical.
Quoted for truth.
There was nothing immersive about walking in bland-topia.
Just samy old crap.

I did however made it a quest to find every single thing on the map.
I have no idea if I've completed it. But it looks completed.

I got sick of the same bloody landscape over and over in Oblivion so I used fast travel, though I am absolutely not going to use it in Skyrim unless all of the landscape looks identical.

I didn't use it for quite some time, but eventually caved. I'll probably hold off from using it in Skyrim given how awesome the landscapes look in it.

Many old Morrowind fans hated fast travel and refused to use it. I, however, don't have enough spare time in my life to waste it on pointless travel. Yes, it's a pretty game, but that doesn't mean i want to see the same path 10000000 times. Also, i've never understood the immersion argument. Do some people actually think they're really in the game?
