If this post is to be belived, which I don't see why not, you don't need Origin to buy or play Star Wars: The Old Republic.

This solution is only temporarily,they'll stop making discs in less than a year and people will be forced to use origin,not to mention that EA limited the amount of hard copies.

And that's pretty old news.
