With the 2012 London Summer Olympics just weeks away, I must admit I'm very excited. What with NBC streaming all the events live online (If you have MSNBC or CNBC on your cable package, you can watch them live online), and me being able to watch it on cable for the the first time in my life, this is the first year that I can actually watch the events that I want to watch.

This brings me to the discussion portion, how excited are you? Which events are you most interested in watching? And for anyone in the UK, are any of you actually going to get to go watch the events in person?

I'm personally most interested in watching the wrestling and the weightlifting. Those two events are almost ever show on the actual NBC channel due to the fact that they aren't all that popular, but they are something I actually have an interest in so I'm going to make a point of watching them.

I'm not really that interested TBH. I'll watch the athletics finals because I love Usain Bolt but that's all I'm really interested in.

British BTW

I have very little interest in the games whatsoever, the same as most people I know in the UK. Whilst I think we have quite a strong Olympic team this year, the whole thing just seems like a massive commercial exercise that's going to cost us more than it brings in, and I don't think it's worth it.

I might watch some of the running, swimming, cycling, and athletics though, just so I can cry at how much faster than me they all are. Depends on how bored/busy I am.

Oh dear - I know this is supposed to be a nice thread about the sports we're excited to watch but I'm going to ruin it.

There are no words to describe how much I hate the fact that the Olympics are in the UK this year.

Yes, it's a boost to sport, and god knows we need more kids interested in it, but not at the expense of every small charity/cultural/artistic endeavour in the country (funding that should be going to charity and arts programmes up and down the country was cut off a couple of years ago to pay it).

I've only been back in the UK for two weeks and I'm already sick to death of EVERYTHING being about the Olympics. Every single advert has some olympic slant. Every company is giving away olympic tickets (which is why the things were nigh on impossible to get hold of through the registration process). It's commercialism at it's most ridiculous and opportunistic.

Yes, I'm a grumpy cow. But I just Effing hate the Olympics alright?!

Well I'M excited for the Olympics.

I plan on watching swimming, gymnastics, track and field, beach volleyball, and, if I get a chance, maybe some boxing. I couldn't careless about basketball since I don't like the NBA and the players, so they can go pound sand.

Everything else is just 'meh' to me, and if it's on and I'm around I will watch it, but I'm not going to be cheering for any one country. Also, the opening and closing ceremonies are awesome.

I'm a big Olympics fan. I like the whole international angle, and it's mostly sports I don't otherwise watch, so I have a good time with it.

I like watching swimming, track and field, wrestling, gymnastics, and basketball. Honestly though, I'll probably watch a bit of everything that doesn't involve horses.

My biggest problem with the olympics is the coverage. NBC always hypes up every American athlete as having an inspirational story and going through all sorts of manufactured tribulations to get to the games. Bullshit. For most of them, they're good athletes and they got there because they're the best. That's great, but don't try to sell me on the Americans for every damn event. I'm not gonna root against some awesome Russian girl who can do crazy triple backflips just because her competitor grew us in small town Oklahoma.

I tried getting tickets for the women's team gymnastics final but to no avail. So I'll be watching it on TV instead. So there's that but I kind of want to see as much as I can really. I like the smaller events like shooting, kayaking, Tae Kwon Do, diving etc but watching the big athletics and triathlon events is pretty awesome too. Mostly looking forward to the gymnastics though, the things they can do are just phenomenal.

I'm also one of those crazy mofo's who doesn't care which country wins. I'm just here for the awesomeness.

Pretty much everyone in the UK thinks the Olympics are going to be a bit shit, me included. They're turning the stadium into a "traditional English meadow" for the opening ceremony for fuck's sake. How did anyone think that would be a good idea?

Extra annoyance points go to EDF energy for claiming to be long time supporters of British sport in order to get patriotism points. What does EDF stand for? Energie de Francais.

I'll be in the USA when they're on anyway, but my family are going to the canoeing (I know, sounds riveting) and the football.

I enjoy the Olympics but I refuse to pay for cable so it severely limits my watching capabilities. Streaming sounds awesome....I'd love to do that but they tend only let people watch online that are capable of watching it on their TVs.....which strikes me as very odd as it cuts off a potential revenue stream.

Perhaps even a...mad cow? [footnote]Get it!? Because the UK had that outbreak a few years back! I crack myself up.[/footnote]

I mostly watch gymnastics, especially enjoy the vaults, rings, horizontal and uneven bars.

I can relate. Living in Atlanta in 96 was a nightmare, and that was before the bomb scares started. Just trying to go through day-to-day life was nearly impossible. I love the Olympics, but I don't want them near me anymore.

Strangely, I still want the US to get the World Cup. But they spread that across the country, so it won't be as bad.

Do not care for it. Glad I'm in the Welsh land and far away from it, we're helping host the Woman's Football in the city or something, but no one gives a shit about that so we won't be over run with people.

I wish France won it, it's bugging me.

I'll probably watch the football maybe the table tennis. Athletics isn't really of any interest to me.

Go Team GB!
