Well, The Hurt Locker has won it all. What do you think?

Personally, I think that there were better choices: Up in the Air or Inglourious Basterds, for instance. I liked the Hurt Locker, but I never really found it deserving of the heaps of critical praise lumped on it.

Having not seen Hurt Locker, I'd say I would have liked to see Inglorious Basterds or Star Trek win. But Hurt Locker looks pretty good and I may watch it.

I'm okay with Hurt Locker winning it all. I was rooting for an upset by District 9 but I'm okay with Hurt Locker.

The Hurt Locker didn't deserve that prize - I watched it yesterday, and I really enjoyed it, but it was surprisingly shallow, thematically speaking. Inglourious Basterds was such a better movie, both cinematically and thematically. Hell, at least Avatar had the visual thing going for it. All Hurt Locker had was the "oh, look at me, I'm a low-budget war movie, don't you just love me?" thing.

I find I don't care. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Oscars are bogus. The winners are decided by a bunch of senile old men and who wins is more about politics then it is about which films are actually good.

At least Christoph Waltz got Supporting Actor. There is some justice in the world, it seems.
After browsing the lists [http://www.imdb.com/features/rto/2010/oscars] of nominees and winners, a thought occurs to me: Have practical effects really dropped away so completely that Star Trek won Best Makeup for pointy ears and puffy hands?

Lets examine The Hurt Locker for a moment.

Its about a politically charged topic.....check

The opening quote says something about war being a drug(IE war is bad).....check

Best director was never given to a woman before tonight, and the director's a woman. Thus its a historic first and people love to vote for historic firsts.....check (oh and lets not forget it was never given to a black person before either, so really the competition was between those two movies if you think about it in this way.)

I about imagine people at this point will stop reading and furiously begin fueling their flame throwers to turn me to ash, but read on I'm not that sore of a loser.

While I was angry it won I wasn't the least bit surprised because in my opinion while Basterds and Avatar were great I did not find them to be worthy of best picture. While I'm quite certain it won based on truly artistic merits it will forever nag me in the back of my mind that it won for the wrong reason.

I still say grats to Ms. Bigelow enjoy you victory as every Oscar winner rightfully should.

Hurt locker shouldn't have won... I mean it's not that deep.

People will remember Avatar the most so it probably should have won.

Of course if you want you can read this list at cracked.com to try to put the awards in perspective as a pretentious lot of mis-aimed accolades: <a href=http://www.cracked.com/article_18460_5-reasons-oscars-matter-even-less-than-you-thought.html>5 Reasons The Oscars Matter Even Less Than You Thought.

I'm just happy to see Jeff Bridges take home a big one. The evil side of me is glad to see Avatar take little, proves even if you hit big money, doesn't prove it's worth it. (also see MW2)

fuck Sandra Bullock, fuck the Academy for giving Oscars to Precious for writing over District 9 and Animated to Up over Fantastic Mr Fox. beyond that, i can't complain. Waltz and The Dude took home their statues, and Cameron lost to his ex, and those three give me faith in humanity

The choice was the correct one in my eyes. After seeing Avatar, Up, District 9, Hurt Locker, Inglorious and Blind Side I thought Hurt Locker was the best. District 9 was a close second that I thought should have won for writing. Then again the Academy snubbed Citizen Kane, Goodfellas, Saving Private Ryan and Pulp Fiction...so take that as you will.

To be honest, I'm just glad Avatar didn't win. District 9 was my favorite movie by far, with Basterds very VERY close behind. Eather shoulda won, but hey, what's without a little lulz at people's idiocracy?
