Cat. Get one from the pound, go for the one which runs up to you, and is affectionate. Even if the "cute little one hiding in the corner" is adorable, it's still likely to be hiding in the corner for a reason.
And anyone who says cats aren't affectionate is lying.
And besides, they're adorable! /has two at his mum's and 3 at his dad's.

Don't get a python. A friend of mine had one until a two weeks ago. He took him to the vet because wasn't eating for a few weeks. The vet told him to put him down because the snake was starving himself to eat my friend. (Yes, he was a large snake.)
o_O Couldn't have just sold him?
Or Gave him into a zoo?

Yeh, take this guy's advice. Once we had a huge gold fish and it ate all the little neons we bought.
yes!! epic advice! lol...

also i forgot to mention something that you just reminded me of... dont know how you did but you did ok...

the big black fish died because he ate so much... so it was a mass murder/suicide... sounds fishy to me... *pun intended* lol XD
...Okay
We had a big black one as well, one of it's eyes came out for some reason.

Fish. They don't shit all over the house, they don't do noisy crap all night so you can't sleep and you don't need to feed em meat or anything. Just good ol' fish.
i bought fish once... i had 9... we fed em fine.. but uhh it turns out that the big black one *i am not racist, this is true* had stolen all the food for the other ones and they starved to death and then he ate their bodies....

the point of this story you may ask? dont buy fish that are different.. buy a few of the SAME fish... or at least same size.
Yeh, take this guy's advice. Once we had a huge gold fish and it ate all the little neons we bought.
We used to have fish. One i liked in particular was a goldfish called Butterscotch,my younger brother over fed him and he became paralysed. My brother thinking it was dead fed it to a cat.
T'was a funny week.
N'aww, poor fishey.

Cat/s, give them a litter tray until you allow them outside and you will never get any mess in your house.

They are fairly self-reliant so no guilt needed if you go out for the day/night.

That is so funny (not the being put down part). I'm chuckling right now.

Get something small, like a hamster or a guinea pig (look, they play video games too). Easy to take care of, and they don´t make a huge mess, if they happen to shit all over the place. Of course, being small they can sneak into weird places and cause some serious damage. Fishes are also easy to take care of (aquarium isn´t), but please refer vamp rocks´ sad, sad story. Dogs are great fun and good company, but prepare yourself for walking a wet dog in pouring rain. Personally, I prefer cats. Want something more exotic? Try lizards or spiders. At least you have something to annoy your irritating relatives with. Or you could always get a pony.

Pets rule, I agree. Get one you like and are willing to spend time with. Every pet comes with equal responsibility. Have fun!

He was considered too much of a threat to humans to be allowed at the zoo. Once one zoo refuses you for this reason, no other zoo will accept you.

I have a cat name Shadow, hes pretty dependent on me (unlike most cats) but I also have a dog named Rex who is very independent. Their kinda total opposites but both are very awesome. If you have the time to take care of a dog then get a dog but if you want an animal that doesn't need as much attention get a cat. Either way both make great pets :D

I've got three cats, two dogs, two rabbits, three zebra finches, two degus and two ponies. I have to say, I like the cats the best by miles.

They're easy, smart, affectionate, and they have such personalities. Unlike a dog, a cat won't whine at you all the time, you don't have to walk them for hours on end each day, they use CONSIDERABLY less food, they drop less hair (one of my pooches is a long-haired German Shepard), they make less mess.

Also, cats just look nicer. And they look cuter when they eat Pringles; a dog just snarfs it down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYjWukre7S8 [/shameless plug]

Er, well it all depends on what you're going for or what fits your life style.
I've had anything from cats to dogs to bunnies to hamsters to turtles to fish to birds and uh, one guinea pig pig.

Right now, I just have a cat, and she's adorable.

Try posting a little more about what you can and can not have, or your preferences. That could help a bit more with the responses.

Thinking of getting a little animal companion, but not entirely sure which to get.
Any ideas my fellow escspists?

Don't pets just rule?
If you have any,please discuss.
My husband and I want to get a Catahoula puppy. We are on a waiting list right now, the link below takes you to a vid of a Catahoula puppy so you can see what I am talking about.

I think you should get a cat, I have 2 cats and a dog
cats are very self suficient they just need to be fed and you have to change there litter every other day. so theres not much work to have a cat but It can be very rewarding If you get a friendly cat that likes to be with you.

We have two boxers, one that is 3 or so and the other we've had for a few months (she is about 5-6 months old. They are great family dogs and will get a bit protective. They do love other people and have so much energy.

Just make sure your home a lot so that they can bond with you and that dog will become your best friend.
