An article I just randomly wrote on my blog [http://ijusttypestuffhere.blogspot.com/2010/01/problem-with-being-you.html]
Search Bar tested but do you really know how many things come up with the word opinion in it? =J
Well already I'm walking on thin ice seen as it sounds like I'm about to criticize you as a person however that's not the case.
Basically, What makes you, YOU?
- Personality
- Inspiration
- Knowledge and perception
but most of all...opinion.
Now the problem with opinion is you can't exactly kill it with bullets as the saying goes "Ideas are bulletproof."
Although I wouldn't want to intentionally shoot your thoughts, just there is always a problem with people demanding that their opinion should be rubbed in my face and to be accepted.
What some people have difficulty understanding is that you have a right to have an opinion; you don't have a right to demand it's right.
If everyone has a right to have an opinion then arguing with someone over something entirely opinionated is hypocrisy to the aforementioned "right" and most importantly pointless. It's true that a good old debate to get the brain all fired up and thinking to the max is a nice way to test your knowledge and ability to understand the things you have learned or been told but it's a matter of knowing the difference between a healthy debate and just plain assiduous ignorance, arrogance and complete disregard of the "right" of opinion whether they believe in it or not.
As much as I might rant on about this it's of course inevitable that people argue and how complicated these arguements can become from misunderstandings, the wrong choice of words and expressions, the ad hominems and the general lack of a clear head due to a fitting rage people have when they discover that someone's opinion on the internet is an opposition to their own; I mean like that's rare.
Moving on from the "right" of opinion what about the complete and utter blindness people have? To elaborate I'll make a quick thought up scene.
Person A has an opinion
Person B has an opinion that is different to A's.
Ok now if person A begins to have an argument with person B, person A has already completely missed the fact that even if person B's opinion is based on faulty facts and information or not, person A is attack the very being of B.
This is obvious and basic stuff here and I'm sure you all know this but it's pretty irritating when person A can't see that no matter how hard he tries person B's opinion will remain the way it is due to A's hostility and vice versa for B.
So there we go, probably about maybe 3 hours of their life wasted trying to change someone's opinions and build their ego.
Now let's imagine if person A just said "Hey, everyones entitled to an opinion" and let it be done at that.
Person A would have:
- Saved three hours of his life and B's.
- He may have earned the respect of B and possibly more chance of morphing B's opinion in the future with the presence of this "respect."
It's not the fact that I care if person A or/and B waste their lives away in pointless sqaubbles, it's more to me about how it can make even the most friendliest communities look like a warzone.
I know nowadays people have the right mind to point out blatent flame war source as a warning for others but sometimes some idiot just can't help themselves.
So what's my point?
Well I just think some people should learn to just get over themselves and grow a spine without throwing a hissy fit at every dick and harry who don't have the same opinion as them.
I mean everyone is unique...just like everyone else
And one of the sweetest ironies is this is my opinion and I've wasted 20 minutes of my life and possibly yours but hey...I just type random shit anyways.
And That's my two cents folks.
(Rant was not brought on by anything, just fancied typing something)
