Ah! I knew there was a reason, but I never really thought about it until now.
In Bioshock, there are other survivors. Bat-shit insane suvivors, or survivors who intend to manipulate/use you to their own ends (often insane), but survivors none the less. Bioshock comes most alive when various characters call you up on your radio to chat, berate you, or otherwise interact.
Dead Space lacks that. Sure it has radio-logs, but those aren't real interaction. I think that is one of the reasons why I never enjoyed Dead Space, but I really liked Bioshock.
