As a massive fan of the Halo franchise it pains me slightly to write this post but I have to find out whether other fans (or gamers in general) feel about the massive amount of media around, what was originally, a single game back in 2001.

Dont get me wrong, this isnt a Halo hate post, just an observation that there is a point at which a franchise should gracefully bow out of the lime light before the money takes away the (epic pun) magic.

Basically, what I want to know is do people think that the franchise should stop after Halo: Reach, should have stopped after Halo 3 or should keep going until the money runs out.

Halo threads are too popular. Try not to make them, although I commend you for not bashing Halo completely.

I don't know if they should have stopped. ODST looks interesting, and I plan on buying it. Reach, I might buy, but that will depend on the game. I can't say the franchise has been going on too long if I haven't played the latest games from it.

No, I like franchises. It helps me pick a game because I know what I'm getting, and it helps developers create a solid fanbase and get specific feedback on what changes customers want in the next installment.

There are problems with franchises. On the one hand, a stand alone game might do really well, causing them to force out a lackluster sequel (Halo 2, Max Payne 2, Deus Ex: Invisible War). On the other hand, the first in a planned franchise may do badly, and end on a cliffhanger (Psi Ops, Advent Rising).
