Same here. And he isn't mute: he clearly monologues on the plane of how awesome he's destined to be.

He did some creepy things to his vocal chords though, to turn him into Big Daddy, so I'm not sure if he could talk after that.

Last game I played was MGS4. Now considering that Solid Snake (Old Snake) is sterile, this just makes me very concerned and suspicious of my true origins. However in any case, thats a cool (and sneaky) Dad to have around.
