I have a Golden Retriever. A breed that's supposed to love water, and he's terrified of the tiniest streams you can imagine. He's also pretty lazy, but he does make a great lap warmer when you're watching TV or playing games.
Pfffffs. Too tiny. This right here is more dog than that thing.Lucem712 said:That's right, your life is complete.

Yeah, they get a whole host of problems because of inbreeding to get particularly stupid traits:Luftwaffles said:Agree with this.Vault101 said:pugs are.."dogs" that have had the "dog" bred out of them...
I feel very sorry for them
OT:
I hear they get breathing problems due to the flattened noses. Personally id prefer a border collie. Ok, thats a lie....my dream dog would be a Tamaskan.
I'm afraid I'm a full grown person!JoJo said:Are you my eight year old sister in disguise? She's obsessed with pugs to the point where she claims she want to be a "pug breeder" when she grows up. On topic, I agree that pugs are the most awesome breed of dog around and anyone who disagrees with me is in denial ;-)Lucem712 said:That's right, your life is complete.

I've never owned (probably will never) a pug, it was just my avatar so thought I'd roll with it. I own a german shepard multi mix (Nicest way of saying mutt, lol) myself and there's nothin' like wrapping your arms around a big dog!The Almighty Grigard said:Pfffffs. Too tiny. I got this picture of the net, I don't own a Savannah cat, sadly. They are insanely expensive. And just as large as they are expensive
Anyway, IF I ever were to get a dog, it would probably be a Siberian Huskie or similarly huge dog. Sadly I'm not active enough to fullfill the needs that such breeds have so I will never get myself a dog. I make do with less expensive but still huge cats!
I also own a multi-mix, she's this weird burnt orange colour haha.OneCatch said:Yeah, they get a whole host of problems because of inbreeding to get particularly stupid traits:Luftwaffles said:Agree with this.Vault101 said:pugs are.."dogs" that have had the "dog" bred out of them...

The bit about deformities is at around 0:30.
That program isn't the most neutral source, but it's worth a watch. It caused a real backlash against the Kennel Club in the UK (the Kennel Club are a pedigree dog certifier). I'm not sure if there are similar problems elsewhere, but it seems probable.
The rest of the film talks about a lot of other pedigree breeds that suffer various problems due to perverse breeding schemes.
I'd always get a dog from the RSPCA [http://www.rspca.org.uk/home], but if I had to buy one, I'd get one that WASN'T certified pedigree.
OT: I like German Shepherds; one of my dogs is a German Shepherd/Doberman/Collie/Fuck-knows-what-else cross, and the other one is a slightly more straightforward lab/collie cross!
Edit: video reference fix
I got bit in the face by a jack russel a few years ago.Fasckira said:Not a pug, thankfully:

I always (try) to get my dogs from pounds, I do hate that people pay thousands of dollars for 'pedigree' pets when there are perfectly healthy dogs in pounds and shelters.
That's a really nice looking dogLucem712 said:
Really sorry to hear that, though I would be inclined to say thats the fault of the owner for not giving the dog proper training.lRookiel said:I got bit in the face by a jack russel a few years ago.
Need a big, healthy dog?Crenelate said:They are such an unhealthy breed (in general and like many others) so they make me sad. I'm sure they make lovely companions but I'd prefer a bigger, healthier dog.
