The quintessential PC games

I have just finished building a nice gaming rig and the newest game i have played before this was Star Wars: Empire at War.

So what do you guys think are the neccecary computer games for me to get.

In before "The orange box" games. I plan on buying them already.

I'd suggest Crysis to test the graphics!!
I'm not sure about playability, since I never really got into it.

For strategy games, maybe the new Command & Conquer, or Sins of a Solar Empire.

For FPS, as I said, Crysis, Bioshock.

Meh, that's all I got at the moment off-hand.

If you are a rpg fan than I whole heartedly recommend Morrowind. Get the expansion packs too even if you didn't like them that much. Morrowinds modding community is still alive and working at it and alot of the best mods (Morrowind Comes Alive, Tamriel Rebuilt) require the scripts that come with Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

For a turn-based strategy game the Total War games have yet to disappoint me.

Seconded, also go older and get Homeworld as it is a f**king classic RTS. And look into Sins of a Solar Empire.

Download the demo of Crysis for a general performance test (if your rig can run it on high then you'll run anything on the market currently) but don't buy it as I feel its a bit pointless spending full price for what is essentially a tech demo.

I also like World in Conflict and X3: Reunion but thats just me. Also, EVE Online but I would say that to anyone =)
