Ever heard of a mustached industrialist creating his own city with his own ideals?
I'm sure this may have been brought up somewhere else but I am starting to find the similarities between Andrew Ryan and Rapture and Walt Disney and his EPCOT project.
In case you didn't know before he died Walt Disney dreamed of creating an Utopia where he would hold supreme authority:
"An experimental city that would incorporate the best ideas of industry, government, and academia worldwide"-Walt Disney on EPCOT/after playing Bioshock
His EPCOT project (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow)held near identical beliefs to Rapture he even has his own ideals on "Parasites" such as the poor and the old. It seems to me that it was to be his greatest achievement(Gamer Points)
"Fancy being remembered around the world for creating a cartoon mouse"- Walt Killing Bambi again and any Mickey Mouse Fan
Like Andrew Ryan, Walt also thought the modern world had been created by Great Men and believed fully that he could "Leave Behind problems of past civilizations and start afresh"
In the end the only difference between Rapture and EPCOT are that Rapture was built underwater and actually happened in Bioshock and EPCOT after Walt's Death(He had gotten quite far into building it) sadly (or gladfully if your terrified or him now) a "Parasite" took it over:
It was revived, in a vastly scaled-down form, when Disney chief executive, E. Cardon Walker, announced plans for the EPCOT Center theme park, in October 1978.
So if whatever is in Rapture in Bioshock 2 tries to turn it into a theme park, you know why.
