piano wire plus throat....it isnt as noisey as you think,

or how about a big ass rambo knife and a straight up decapitation?

or poison, or chloroform, or a sleeper hold with your elbow while you cut up their lungs and heart?

the possibilities are endless!!! oh and crossbow.

To be honest when I read the title I thought this thread would be about silent farts that are quite smelly. Anyway nice to know but I don't think I will ever need this.

Have you actually practiced the technique you're describing or are you pulling it out of your arse?

If the former who was your instructor.

I was only about ten at the time...
This and snapping their neck. The second option requires a great deal of strength though.

Did he regularly do that when you were 10?

Remember, silent is relative. If his nearest buddy is 50 meters away through the jungle, he's prolly not gonna hear thrashing and gurgling. If he's 10 meters away, he probably will.

... Random thought: I've always wondered at the practicality of using a stiletto to kill someone by stabbing them through the eye.

OT: Yeah, that works, though one wonders just how loud a manual neck-break is. (Actually, never mind... think that would make a fair bit of noise and catching the falling body post-kill would be rather difficult...)

Or, y'know, you could just forgive them for kicking the ball on to your front garden.

Yeah, but only because I asked... :p

This is true.
And I would imagine a knife being repeatedly stabbed into someone's neck would cause a lot of noise too....

Sleeper hold is the most quiet kill, provided you have the strength to pull it off. The best way to use a knife though is to actually stab it through the side of the neck until it comes out the other side, then pull it towards the face, effectively splitting the throat open. It's much more efficient than a simple slice across the throat.

Decapitation is a lot harder than you think, even between the vertebra, i don't think you could do it with a knife. It's hard enough with a full-blown sword.

and the crossbow is virtually identical to the knife in the wound it creates, so you would still have to hit the right place, although the greater force involved opens up skull-penetration possibilities. And very few poisons are fast enough or painless enough to cause a silent kill, although some snake venoms would probably do the trick if you managed a painless enough injection method.

My dad was in the Paras and he said the same thing. Video games can be so misleading, but at least they aren't "teaching kids to kill", right?

The bone at the base of the eye socket is thin enough for a dagger-like combat knife (eg. Fairbairn-Sykes) to penetrate. It's hard to attack the eyes however as you can expect your opponent to recoil. Protecting the eyes/front of face is a natural first instinct and I see no way it could be a practical technique unless your intention is to tape and release it. In which case you're one sick puppy.

Sleeper hold requires almost no strength, it's all about leverage and skill. and the biggest problem with the sleeper hold is that it doesn't close off the windpipe, so they are still free to scream, and it requires both arms(at least the way my martial art teaches it). If you could pull it off with one arm while the other held his mouth It might work.

You must have had the BEST bedtime stories.

Hahah, his favourite stories were always ones involving army intel cock-ups, funnily enough. So they were almost alway amusing. :D

Remind me to tell you some of his Ireland stories sometime... :p

Oddly enough, I was about the same ago (9 or 10) when my dad told me how to instantly kill somebody... Basically, what the OP said, a knife through that little spinal nubbin at the base of the neck. I know I was 9 or 10 at the time because he told me this while we were watching Executive Decision. Somethings just stick with you, I guess. Thanks, Dad.

After spending a few years in the army, I've never been able to confirm this...

It's amazing how these sorts of things are actually hard to prove wrong, even without evidence to prove them correct... :p

Twist their neck really fast to the side, snap their brain stem. Then the body is even made easy to thief style hide if nesecary due to no blood (pulling their shoulders in the other direction will help to) This is the real silent kill

Muffling the victim until he bleeds out (which does not take long with the jugular cut, I'm certain)will result in, if not utterly silent, at least a kill you won't be able to hear if there's moderate background noise. Also, the windpipe below the larynx would be severed, so all you'd hear would be gasping and gurgling. Once again, not quiet as a mouse but you're not gonna hear it if you aren't in the same room.

I assume you've practiced this technique and can name the instructor who taught it to you?
