I'd be skeptical of the whole thing. If it's possible to just kill one person at the touch of a button, obviously reality is not what it initially seemed, and maybe stupid things like karma and heaven actually do exist...
On the other hand, people die all the time. The death of your parents is already pretty much guaranteed in life, but so rarely do we acquire wealth without wasting heaps of time and effort. The only thing better than being wealthy is being wealthy while you're still young. I think I'd push it.
You think killing a person with the press of a button is far-fetched. Ever heard of a ICBM? Or an Automated turret pointing at a restrained, confused, doomed family member? Considering that it is a gamble that you would cause a actually beloved family member (which seems a far-fetched pipe dream to most Escapists) is not a gamble worth taking. I would take the key. Though if they die, legally it isn't your fault, it is the man with the briefcase. The worst you could be charged with is conspiracy/manslaughter (with is accidental murder, I believe)

Yeah, when I read the OP I was like "I know how this game is played.. I am getting the hell out of there"

So yeah, I know how this game is played.. I am getting the hell out of there.

Well my family is full of drunks, assholes, and people who are at the end of their line anyway so I'd take the money.

The key, but I'm pretty well off. If I was poorer it would be more difficult.

Honestly, I wouldn't.

I value my morals more than tons of cash, a new car and a new house.
This isn't to say I dont want those things, just that I am a very happy person now, I don't need those things to be happy, so I would just end up having a bad conscience.

It would reduce my quality of life to hit the button, therefore I wouldn't.

Does it have to be a RANDOM family member?
Either way I'd press the button just out of curiosity.

edit
I would also probably press it because of the chance that it could be a select 1 of the 2 family members who have caused my family nothing but trouble.

edit again
I have reached the conclusion that it is a lie and if you press the button you die because you chose to sacrifice a member of your family.

I have few morals, betrayal isn't one of them so long as nobody finds out.
Secondly my quality of life would improve by 1 less annoyance.

F##k that button, I'm not that sick.

Also, it says you get the car money, and house. It doesn't say crap about you getting out of the room now does it?

The only reason I'd take the money would be to help my family, so what's the point if they die because of me trying to help them?

I have children, and they're both still young enough that I can't call them ungrateful jerks yet. And my wife too. Its still early on enough in our marriage that I can't wish anything bad upon her.

That's not gonna happen until we're in our 80's.

I would stand up. Shoot the bird at the bastard then take the key and be on my way. I don't want blood on my hands and no amount of money and power will ever change that.

Button, I have a very, VERY, large family. I could lose a family member I've never even met. In the event I knew them I might not like them, and if I did and felt guilty I'd just use the awesome cash to create a series of orphanages designed 'Put it on the Ritz' if you get my meaning.

Money, Pointless, House? Pointless. Nice car? Pointless, I'd kill bit not for trival things like Possestions. A smart mind can make his own money, Buy his own house, Get his own car.
