the red ring. any tips?

so a couple days ago, my 360 suddenly lights up with 3/4 red lights on the ring. as far as I know, nothing out of the ordinary happened to it, but now it wont even load the xbox menu. I've tried unplugging it and reattaching the hard drive but neither seem to work. I'll probably call the helpline this weekend but I was wondering if anyone knows anything else I can try before taking that step.

As I said, I've tried reattaching all the cords and the hard drive, so please dont bother mentioning those.

I dont know if this makes a difference, but I've had it for about a year and a half, ever since halo 3 came out. Its one of the spartan colored ones.

I had the RRoD last week, after 2 and a half years of faithful service. All you can do is send it to Microsoft for repair. Call them ASAP, the warranty is two years but for the RRoD it was extended to three years. Call them and explain that you have the RRoD, and ask them to repair it. Should only take a couple of weeks, and if they can't repair it you should be able to get a brand new one from them absolutely free. Apparently they've released a new versio now, the 'Jasper' console, better than the old 'Falcon' version as it won't have the RRoD, so you might be able to get that from Microsoft if you're lucky.
