I'm waiting for next friday to get this CD. Muse is probably the only music group I know of where you can listen to the whole album, hate all but two songs, and then turn around six months later, and love all of the songs just as much, if not more, than the first two songs you liked. I personally hated Black Holes and Revelations when I first heard it (I still kind of cringe when I hear Matt signing Supermassive, just because he sounds way too much like Prince for my liking). But now I put the album up there behind Absolution as one of my favorites to listen to. So far, from hearing Uprising, I have hope that this may be another epic album from Muse.

I think this album could be the deal breaker that splits the fans, there are the people who were listening to Muse back in 99 for Showbiz and then Origin of Symmetry in 2001 and the fans who joined for Absolution when they got really popular.

I think the fans from the start like myself will be less keen on the album, in fact I'm fairly certain of this because the general response from myself and other people I know who were listening to Muse way back when is; to quote one particular person... "It's not terrible, but it's not what I was hoping for either" so a general feeling of meh.

It is a fairly large departure in style and content, here's the few key points that put me off:
- Uprising is basically glam rock (which I can't stand).
- Undisclosed Desires is essentially some sort of R&B poppy thing which I haven't been able to sit all the way through other than the Teignmouth gig where it was performed using a keytar.
- The 3 part symphony was hardly the classical symphony I was expecting, having been a classically trained musician and loving classical music much the same as Mr Bellamy I was expecting a great deal more from those 3 parts.
- This isn't necessarily a bad thing but... there's at least two songs that someone with less knowledge would probably swear blindly they were being performed by Queen.

What is more disturbing is that their live performance seems to have suffered for their new style too, there was a time where their gigs were filled with flourish and the songs never sounded like the album, they evolved and grew into stage masterpieces which then further inspired their new music for the next album. The Teignmouth gig was much more sedate and as if they were just playing the tunes they thought people wanted to hear and the way they thought people wanted to hear them... it was essentially like they weren't having fun anymore and without a single powerful song with a good riff on this album who knows if we'll ever see the old Muse again.

However, I don't begrudge musicians who want to go in new artistic directions, sometimes it can be an incredible change but mostly it's just a reminder of why they were so right in their original style.

As for the fans of Absolution and beyond, I'm confident the majority will nom this album down like it's candy.

Yea, I was going to say something like this but you took it out of my mouth/hands. The only thing I have to say is that a lot of people who joined when I told them about Muse in 2008 and early this year don't like Resistance that much.

Definitely the worst Muse album so far.

I will probably get this album as soon as I can.

I am a big fan of Muse, since Origin of Symmetry. I very much liked Absolution and Black holes.

From what I've heard of the album (samples online) it seems to be more Piano and less guitar, and has a sound that closest to Absolution. I liked what I heard and am pretty hyped about getting the album.

I am not sure why people disliked "Absolution and beyond". Muse have been somewhat constant in their sound and style, to the point that some will say that they haven't evolved much.
