I don't think the Rock has played a villain since his screen debut in The Mummy Returns (and even then, his villainy was basically his growling face being duck taped to a really bad CGI scorpion body).
Isnt Doom more recent?

I was hoping that he'd be Captain Marvel and not Black Adam, but I'm not unhappy with the news given how it's the Rock as a superhero/villain and the world needs more of that.

Actually, on more thought, we haven't heard who's playing CAPTAIN MARVEL(Or Billy), the main character of the movie. So why are they announcing the Villain before the hero?

as mentioned in my own thread on this, a scriptwriter for a SHAZAM movie has been announced as well, so it can be assumed that Black Adam will be the enemy in this film.

The scriptwriter is Darren Lemke. Make of that what you will.

The Rock has the least threatening face I have ever seen. Its so hard for me to take him seriously as a villain, even when he is thicker than a redwood. Its that dazzling white smile and those big eyes and a face that looks like it just had a spa treatment.

I understand wanting to play against type, but he's really gonna have to do some convincing to make me fear him as a villain.
He can look kinda menacing with some facial hair and a scowl, otherwise he's just adorable.

Good casting, but I can't be the only one who wanted to see him play Plastic Man... can I?

Huh. I've always thought The Rock would suit the Marvel movieverse more, DC films are a bit too serious and he's better in more lighthearted roles. I don't really know how Shazam would fit into the DC films either, so god knows how this is all going to turn out.

I... completely forgot that he was in Doom, and as a villain no less (although, in my defense, he kinda just "became" the villain for the last like, fifteen minutes of movie.)
