RPGs many times have 3 different kinds of characters, the strength character who has high defense/hp and melee attack power, the intellect character which nukes and kites from a distance, and the agility character who deals above average melee/ranged damage.

Thats just a basic outline, and not every RPG is the same, but playing them, I've noticed that the only thing that my agility characters exceed at is dying. has anyone else experienced this, or are there many games where the agility character wrecks face?

When I wrote this, the games I had in mind were old WC3 AoS maps, KOTOR, my BC rogue in wow, my sin in D2, Dragon Age, and maybe some others that escape me at the moment, and all of these characters compared to str/intel based characters. One notable contradiction would be my vanquisher in Torchlight, explosive shot is OP.

It depends on games of course. The speedster is usually always a support character, a thief, an archer etc. that usually makes up for it by poisoning or stealing stuff.

I don't see what isn't fun about pinning peoples heads to walls with arrows, or introducing them to Mr Rape Knife, from behind...

I go for either Intell, or Sneak/rogue/Agility...

Also consider this, Link is a Agility class.

Zelda=Intell
Ganon= Strength
Link= CourageAgility.

And he saves/kills them both ALL the time. Obvious winner is obvious :D

Well I had a Agility Character in DA:O and I had no trouble with him dying. I usually just have them flank all the time. Thats just what I do anyway.

Strength = military tanks.
intellect = wizards!
agility = ninjas!

Strength is simple but average, intellect speaks softly yet swings a large stick, and agility is for those of ninja-like qualities, because bows suck more than a prostitute with a vacuum in a black hole.

I try and use strength and agility, so I can dodge things, then smack their face in.

actually i found the ranged character type in fable 2 kind of raped face. and also in fallout 3 a sneaky agile character will hit devastating crits, and in dnd i love playing rouges. basically agility characters just usually suck at the beginning.

Yeah. They tend to be. I'll play them when viable. Otherwise I'm the mage.

Warriors=Boring. Ass. Shit. and will rarely be played by me.

Well in Borderlands, Lilith is the SMG/elemental person, therefore the fast one. And since she is a complete badass, well...

I've always found that playing a warrior class, you survive so much better, because you don't have to worry about dodging hits as much and just steamrolling everything, whereas playing a ninja/assassin, where dodging is key to survival is finicky and often times the mechanics don't allow for agile maneuvering.

DotA: Agility or Strength hero depending on my mood. I rape as Razor/Clinkz/Captain CoCo/OmniKnight.
D&D: Rogue/Thief characters are my preferred class of choice, though technically they're Dexterity rather than Agility. I'll occasionally try my hand at a caster, but I keep consistently coming back to rogues. Bard's my next choice, a Charisma based one.
DA:O: My first playthrough was a rogue, after trying a Dragon Age mage though, I'm not going back. The amount of sheer pwn they wield is too much to pass up on.

I tend to stick to Mages. Mainly because throwing fireballs is fun!!!!

I'll play the tank every now and then,but I tend to stay away from agility based classes because there just there for DPS and a Mage or a Warlock when used right can do more damage then them. But that's what I got from WoW.

In Dragon Age, the agility Rogue is invincible pretty much, but the Cunning rogue has the most DPS single target of any single character (barring pets).

FF, dodging wins more than hitting hard. See, every low level game ever for proof.

Link, as mentioned.

Ezio and Altair, definitely agility characters.

I personally prefer Agility characters and Massively overpowered spell-slingers to the Tanking classes. Assassin and Rangers are my two favourite classes in Guild Wars.

Also, as previously also mentioned, NINJAS!

Plus, Solid Snake and Sam Fisher.

my honest feeling is that on average accross most games the balance will be about average. I suspect if your strugling with the stealth/agility type characters its more of a play style issue, or how you tend to make those characters - ie where you put your stat and skill points.

My advise is to be a shadow... hit and fade, never let them see you, USE YOUR ENVIRONMENT. always strike from the shadows and learn to use ALL those little tricks the various games give you that make you different from a strait up meatbag warrior. look at it this way - because your NOT going to be as good in a strait up fight as a pure warrior you NEED to use these other skills to even the odds. In general tho if you can master these skills (tends to be a playstyle thing) then you should be more powerfull than a pure warrior.

Taking your 3 basic ideas of classes for games i would say the folowing.
warrior: basic choice - simple to play, adequate power lvl
stealth: harder to play, more powerful than warriors if played well.
magic: hardest to play, most powerful.

Lets take your example of kotor.
(ps i know kotor 2 beter been ages since i played kotor 1)
lets look at the jedi sentinal class, its the stealth/agility/skill class. it gets less feats(weapon stuff) than guardian(warrior) and less force powers than consular(magic). it does make up for this with getting more skill points to spend.

ok so lets say you invest some of those skills in stealth, demolitions, repair, computer.

That will let you do the folowing things:
1. Build MUCH better weapons than you can buy, which will put your damage on par with a jedi guardian. Also you can make weapons like this for your team mates too.....
2. sneak around picking up and placing mines - a good source of income, and an easy way to bypass various difficult encounters in the game
3. unlock additional benefits for the droid characters, as well as your own when there around.
4. completely bypass many of the encounters in the game by using your environment - for exmaple, turning on gun turrets or switching off sensors.
5. gain additonal experience simply by having sufficient knowledge about technical aparatus.

Any ways i guess the most important thing in a game is having fun but personaly i find playing a stealther can be extremely rewarding, the same goes for a caster character.
