Ok..here's the deal.

My bf and myself sat down the other night to watch the newest (in Australia anyway) Saw movie, being Saw V,..pretty much 'cuz we love horror/gore..whatever you want to call it.

About 10 minutes into the movie we were staring at the TV with blank faces because we didn't have a damn clue what was actually happening. We then got into a heated conversation about when exactly this movie was supposed to take place..(was it a prequel or sequel to Saw IV.. or did it happen even earlier etc).

After a quick glance at the IMDB,Wikipedia, we kind of managed to figure out where we were at, but I didn't think a movie would be so hard to follow. In the end the storyline is kinda intriguing as long as you have a very good memory and remember characters names and the storylines (if you want to call them that) from the first 10 000 installments (or cheat like we did and use the net).

Maybe it was just because I hadn't watched any of the others for over a year, but I'm curious as to whether anyone has faced the wrath of the Saw movies particularly the newest one, or is there any other movies that you think are even harder to follow?

:)

Bit of both really, unless you know the previous movies back to front, you are going to get lost at some point... I know I did.

First one was good. Second one was okay. Now they're just milking the piss out of the nipples of the franchise because stupid people will keep seeing them every Halloween.

And no, not particularly clever. Nothing that hasn't been done before and done often.

Well, it DID give it's victims a survival instinct. That's the first time I saw such a thing from a horror flick.

Saw was pretty good, but left a lot of blanks. Two tried everything it could to fill in those blanks, but wasn't nearly as good. Every one afterwards just sucked, making new holes in the story just so they can claim to have purpose.

Over-all, Saw lost all of my praise after the second movie came out and has done nothing but climb ever so further down the shitter ever since.

I liked the first Saw but all the others i've seen weren't very good.

Horror movies aren't usually my 'thing' though so I tend to be very picky with them!

I am a huge fan of the horror genre but can't see peoples fascination with the Saw/Hostal franchises. For me horrors need to have either psychology and suspense. A plot that really makes you empathise with the characters before they get killed. All 'Saw' does is susbitute substance for goreporn.

EDIT: The above is just my opinion. I would personally encourage folk to watch Texas Chainsaw massacre, The hills have eyes (the original) or Black Christmas (again the original)if they want to see a decent slasher. Rather than get their jollies on a second rate piece of tripe like 'Saw' LOL...'Saw'

The first Saw was great (love the plot twist!). I thought the second one was pretty good too - the third one had waaaaay too much gore (I kept skipping it to watch the "actual" story), but the forth was interesting with all the back story as to why Saw did what he did.

Not seen the fifth one yet, but they should stop making them - they do seem to getting quite forced now.

My husband would like to point out that "Criminal Minds" did a smililar story in one of their episiodes, and managed to get the whole thing done in 45 minutes flat, as apposed to 5+ films.

I liked the first one because it focused less on the gore and more on the suspense. I watched 2-4 but didn't really enjoy them, don't think I'll watch IV, gore never did it for me.

I think Jigsaw is just a disgruntled ex employee of Nintendo who was thrown off the Zelda design team due to his macabre sensibilities.

The first one was good. The sequels are just too... well...

How many times can you have a dramatic twist in a series?
Plus is some bloody closure too much to ask in a movie?
