The sims

I do like this game. The original, that is. I saw the sims 2 for sale at a used game store and started to play it legitimately. After a while, I felt pretty bored with it. (Took me 3 days of in-game time.) I started to feel like I was actually living life. Going to work, eating, sleeping, keeping my sims meters to the max, and the whole immersion thing flew right out the window when I saw myself playing a game version of myself going through a normal daily routine.

This is weird, though. I never had any problems with the whole 'not liking the game' when I played the original. Granted, I rarely played the original legitimately. (rosebud;!;!;!;!) But it got me thinking, I didn't like the Sims 2, but I still enjoy the original. Why? Is it because the original has all those quirky imaginative expansions? (For which I have all.) It just got me wondering... Are the expansions to 2 better than the expansions to 1?

Edit: After reading this, I see how roundabout my thought process is, so long story short: Is the Sims 2 with all the expansions a better game than the Sims 1 with all the expansions?

Short answer: Yes it is. Sims 2 expansions have a lot more going for them than the first one. The 3rd one is even better.

Long answer (mostly me ranting my anger out on the franchise):
The Sims 1 and 2 are so closely alike that I'm not too convinced I could give you the differences without having to pull up some sort of wikia page. Sims 3 added a bit more exploration but...

The Sims, Sims 2, Sims 3 are all the same game rebuilt... hell even their expansions are expected. Sims 3 came out and I waited for them to announce the vacations, boom. I waited for the 'night life' expansion... boom... I waited for probably the 2 or 500 some odd expansions where all they give you is stuff... boom. If you have all the expansions for Sims, then when you got Sims 2 it's like you had lost all your gadgets and bells and whistles and have to wait for them to add them. The same process is being done on Sims 3. And one day it will happen again with Sims 4

I wouldn't be so irritated with the series if it wasn't for the fact that they charged you for these things at crazy prices. At least with the 3rd one they've made a place where people can put mods of things for free. On the same coin, they started a market where they can charge you real money for things that are even better.

I haven't played Sims 3 too much, but I love Sims 2 and loved Sims 1.

I had loads of expansion packs for the first game, and it was awesome, especially Unleashed. However, I much prefer Sims 2 (expansion packs make it even better). The better graphics make it feel more...realistic? And it just seems more fun than the first game. I love the amount you can do. I can seriously play that game for ages.

Plus, the music whenever the Grim Reaper, a burglar, a fire or a raccoon or something appeared on Sims 1 used to freak me out...

The only thing I really like doing with the sims games is building the houses...after that I just get bored lol. I had sims 1 and 2 with most of the expansions. When 3 came out I just bought the one game and gave up on buying all the expansions because they just sell too damn many of them.
