And how in the last post I talked about Link to the Past as the game where I could never get tired of just replaying, Witcher 3 evokes that same feeling now as an adult. I don't even know how many times I've replayed, most times with clearing all the ?'s and winning all the cards. It's me chill game for sure. I know this makes me weird- it's a single player story game and once you've seen a couple of endings there's really no logical reason to replay it. But I freaking love it.

Geez multiple times clearing that game…how did you have time for anything else lol.

Have you used many mods? Apparently there’s some good ones, but I’ve yet to even finish a vanilla playthrough. I also just seen an article about different builds, and I’m leaning towards the Euphoria one -

Mirror's Edge is something i periodically come back to. It's so relaxing, it's like a spa visit, but for an asociabl, basement dwellers like me!

Yes.
I would certainly recommend finishing a vanilla playthrough once, or at least getting familiar with the combat and mechanics before thinking about any mods. That's because the two most interesting mods are overhauls that effect that combat and systems and deciding which, if any to use, depends on how you feel about the gameplay. Also since they are significant overhauls that even effect the leveling system, you'll want to start a new game with either.

These mods are called Ghost Mode and Enhanced Edition. Both of them make the enemy AI a bit smarter, make the loot and leveling system make system, and fix some of the weird details about how various enemies and items work together. The big difference between them is that Ghost Mode pretty much keeps the core gameplay intact, while Enhanced Edition changes the combat completely. EE replaces the auto-target or lock approach with a purely directional strike, where you have to be more precise, so it's more like Darks Souls or the recent Assassins Creed games instead of this weird Arkham-lite thing in vanilla.
Essentially, GM was designed to "fix" the quirks of the game while EE was designed with the premise that combat kinda sucks, a sentiment shared by many. I think those that complain about W3 combat by (unfairly, IMO) comparing it to Dark Souls should check it out. Since I personally rather enjoy W3's combat as-is, I like Ghost Mode.

If you don't care about any of that stuff, everyone should install Friendly HUD. It gives you more options to control which portions of the HUD are displayed. I like to use it to show only the minimap when out of combat which for me strikes the perfect balance of immersion and convenience (some players claim to like not having a mini-map but I wouldn't know how to find my way). IIRC, Friendly HUD is included in the two overhaul mods GM and EE.

A rather popular one as I remember is called Preparations. This one adds a lot more manual steps to doing alchemy, akin to the first two games in the series. The idea here is to simulate Witcher lifestyle, so instead of simply meditating to restock your potions and stuff you have to craft them all each time. You also build actual fires to meditate. While I like the idea, I personally find it adds tedium not immersion. I'm a basic ***** and I like convenience and fun not chores.

A personal favorite of mine is Gwent Plus Plus which adds more card properties to the gwent cards. This mod is for those who like playing the gwent minigame and just want to change things up a bit on replays.

Of course there are all sorts of mods for appearance, texture, etc. Personally I don't find the texture mods add anything but many seem to like them, and I also do not prioritize high-end graphics so I'm the wrong person to speak about that stuff. And of course the updated version is supposed to be coming out this year anyway. My favorite visual mods are the ones that change the appearance of the Griffin witcher set. One of the funniest and memed things about the game is that this set of armor is easily the most powerful in the early game but it looks like shit.

Double post about W3 because you also asked about builds...

Euphoria is the OP build, especially if you pair it with decoctions and gear like Manticore or Grandmaster Wolf. I love it, but it might get boring.
Here are some builds I personally find fun, and don't require getting to the Blood & Wine DLC (Euphoria is a mutation you only get there).
Listed in order of personal fun preference:

1. The Angry Drunk
Bear school armor and swords because it gives you adrenaline boosts. Equip skills from the strong combat tree branch and alchemy skills that let you drink lots of potions like Acquired Tolerance. Equip your favorite potions and beer in the quick slots and go on drunken rampages taking out bandit camps and ghoul nests.

2. Fire Bomber
There is a level 22 (IIRC) light chest armor that makes you invulnerable to fire called Shiadhal's Armor (a reference to W2!). Equip that and enhanced Cat School gear for the rest. Make and enhance the Samum bomb, and equip the Whirl skill. Now you tolls bombs into crowds and tornado your way through the firy rekkage.

3. Poison Bomber
Same as #2 but at level 30 with Thyssen Armor and superior wolf or griffin gear.

4. Dr. Freeze
The most pure fun mutation in Blood & Wine is the one that freezes enemies when use Aard. It is popular because it is obviously fun to just freeze enemies with your hand.

Though I end up using Northern Wind bombs so much I never would need it.
Keep in mind any "build" you make that involves witcher gear or any set of gear where all the armor elements are the same weight, you should equip the corresponding school skill to enhance those bonuses. I also strongly recommend against using any other yellow skill because they can't be upgraded, and yes that includes the very popular Gourmet skill that everybody seems to like except me (it regens health more when eating food but there's so much food in the world I don't see the point and consider any other yellow skill besides the schools to be wasted slots).

Rune Factory 4. It's my absolute favourite game, and I find it quite interesting as to why. I tried Harvest Moon, and it did nothing for me. But the simple but enjoyable combat of Rune Factory, plus the dungeon diving, as well as the story, makes it a wonderful package for me. It helps that the characters and dialogue are quite well done (In my opinion at least), and I keep finding myself coming back to experience it over and over again. The game does a good job of making me tear up at several points too... which definitely tells me it strikes the right chords

Ok, I lied I'm playing Nethack again. I'm like a recovering alcoholic. I was thinking about it ever since posting in this thread and was trying to kill some time until I could go to bed when switching back to days. I was going to do a single run until I died and then quit, but I never died and now I'm halfway through the game and have to keep going. Dangit!
