Okay, so after a very long and unimportant series of events I ended up downloading The Stanly Parable (if you don't know it's a mod for HL2). My mind was completely blown away by it and I loved every second of playing it. Every line from the narrator was just perfect but the problem was that it's too short.
I was wondering if anyone out there knew of any other games or mods that are in the same style or theme. Does anyone know of something bigger and similar out there?

Stanley Parable is kind of awesome, especially when you consider the whole free will vs the lack thereof, the narrator-as-antagonist who really, *really* hates being an unreliable narrator, and the "winning" and "demonstrating your free will" by doing exactly what you were told. =)

People like to use Dear Esther as a comparison, but it's not quite the same thing.

I was going to suggest Dear Esther as well. It's incredibly atmospheric but it's very linear and doesn't really have any interaction to it. You basically make your way across the island as the narrator tells a story over it. It's mostly telling a story of something that happened a long time in the past, and doesn't really have anything to do with what's happening as you play... or does it? There are a select few places where there is a fork in the road, but your choice doesn't really matter. You just get a slightly different slice of the story, but it doesn't really impact the full plot. It does make it worth going through again to see what you missed, though.

Cool, I'll have a look at Dear Esther then. I'll also be looking forward to the extended cut. Thanks for the help.

I quite like Dear Esther, worth getting when it's on offer though it is a slightly different experience.

Its one of those games that embraces the possibilities of storytelling in a video game and tells one that just couldnt be told in any other medium.

Im going to tell you about a game that you may not have heard of yet, and while it isnt exactly the same type of game it does have that "special" way of telling a story. Gravity Bone, I wont tell you what it is (any kind of information about it will spoil the game for you, even the trailer for the sequel may give some of its awesomeness away, go play it now), I'll just tell you that its a short game (the story could be told on another medium though).

The sequel "Thirty Flights of Loving" just came out, still havent played it yet but I have heard some really cool things about it. Here is the trailer for the second game
