The computer just refuses to remove it to do anything about the trojan only saying that deleting or cleaning has failed. Ive run and rerun the scan and it always brings up the same issues.

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/detected_writeup.jsp?name=Trojan.Gen.2

There is that but maybe you made a restore point at some point using symantec and symantec is picking up the trojan there. I'm kind of grasping at straws here, if your browser isn't redirecting, your computer isn't getting slower, and other crazy malware stuff isn't happening it may not even be an active malware your dectecting. I've never use symantec so I don't know what screen your looking at.

Try updating the one you got and you think the trojan is drastically affecting you try some free programs like ad aware or spybot. If you do get another program make sure to disable everything involved with your current paid for software.

There seems to be a problem with my font.

Everything is in italics. Everything.

I just got this new refurbished computer today (we had a huge unknown problem with my old computer). I have tried to look through the control panel in the font section, but I did not find anything.

I have looked through many forums trying to solve this, none have been helpful.

I have Windows 7 64-bit, if that is important.

Also, how do you share photos? I want to try show you an example of this.

Go into Start>Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization>change theme or select "window colour">advance appearance settings

From there you can change the font for all of the OSes WIMPs. I believe the defualt font is "Segoe UI"

To take a 'picture' of it, just press the "Prt Scr" button on the upper right hand of the key board next to the Scroll lock button then just go into paint or [insert graphical editing software] and save then finally just go to image shack [http://imageshack.us/] upload it, paste the code into your post and then just post it here on the forums, preferably in a spoiler tag.

If this doesn't work then you're going to have to going into the Registry,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes

and modify "MS Shell Dlg" and "MS Shell Dlg2". My current defualt value is Microsoft Sans Serif and "Tahoma"

Hallo, tech-folks. I am in need of counsel.
I'm thinking of buying a laptop for college, but I want it to be decent enough for gaming. Not current-generation sort of stuff, but I'd like to be able to at least run Minecraft at maximum draw-distance with a decent framerate, and play things like Psychonauts and maybe Portal/Portal 2 on low settings.

I've got budget constraints, but I've found two machines which look sort of promising:
http://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?productcode=ECE2063439
and
http://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?productcode=WCEXF483EAABU

Would these be beefy enough for my purposes? RAM can always be bought, of course. Is the i3 considerably better than the dual-core on the first one?
As you can probably tell, I'm not very good at this sort of thing. Oh, I'll probably be dual-booting a Linux distro on this thing, so if any of you know about compatibility issues with the hardware, that would be a nice heads-up.

Thank you very much

I'm trying to make a gif into my avatar, but when I paste the image URL it says that the image is too big, so I resize it, I have the resized image saved, but it doesn't animate. Could I get some help?

Here's the image:

Hey, Im looking to purchase a new gaming rig.
I came across this site that assembles them but to be honest im not 100% up to date with the latest cards. I want something that should perform very well and has a budget of around 1,700
in any case heres the tower itself (i.e cost doesnt include anything with that, just windows 7 no office.)
Case SKU#16010561 - Antec Three Hundred Tower Gaming Case - No Power Supply
Intel Core i7 1366 SKU#19010199 - Intel Core i7 960 Processor
Intel Mothebroard 1366 SKU#28023263 - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R ATX
DDR3 Memory Triple Channel SKU#37140806 - Corsair 12GB (3x 4GB) Vengeance DDR3 RAM
Graphics Card SKU#42050952 - Dual Gigabyte GTX 550 Ti - 1024MB 192-bit GDDR5 RAM
Main Hard Drive SKU#22040439 - Seagate Barracuda - 1TB
Optical Drive SKU#17040381 - Samsung 22x DVD-RW SATA
Power Supply SKU#34040443 - Antec 750W TruePower ATX Power Supply
Operating System SKU#39090362 - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - SP1 - 64-Bit
Mwave & United Electrical Onsite Warranty SKU#61050008 - United Electrical Onsite Total Care - 1 Year Warranty
for $1,480.95
will this computer perform very well as a gaming rig? It would need to last a fair while and be capable of running a minecraft server now and then.

Is there a way to manually remove a virus masquerading as an anti-virus program? I've been trying for a while and the free anti-virus hasn't helped.

Oh, those fuckers... Yeah, you should be able to find the instructions by googling "[whatever AV it's masquerading as] virus" or possibly 'malware' instead of 'virus'.

Word of warning, though, don't just try out the first set of instructions you find... get half a dozen or so from different sources and go with the solution that shows up the most.

I've given up trying to fix it myself, I'll be getting this tech guy I know from my mother's workplace to fix it. Thanks for the advice anyway.

it's possible its your video card drivers, However if its an old machine, maybe the supported video format's version (Like newest flash) might have issues running on your PC.

Or you have very little RAM/Memory.

I have lately been having trouble running a backup for my computer. I have two external hard drives, both Western Digital, one is 500Gb and the other is 1Tb (I think the 1Tb is Solid State). I have run backup to both of them before, but lately I can't update the backup to either of them.

It always runs the backup for a few hours, gets to the point where it's nearly done, then fails. There IS enough space on the drive. I don't know what a shadow copy is or how to find the event logs, anybody know how to fix this?

I vote for...
http://www.comodo.com/
...to be added into AV list.
It's free, it can be used at home and at office, it's fast and reliable.

^ Tomorrow I'm not at work so I'll spend a good portion fixing up this thread including updating links, suggested AV's etc.

Double check your "Shockwave" and "Flash" Player are up to date (From Adobe's website), empty your browser cache/history (should be a guide on google), after that just see how it goes.
