The ten major gaming types. Which are you?

Californian psychoanalysts say there are 10 type of gamer.
In no particular order here?s what they are (according to them)
1. The Hoarder-Often seen collecting weapons and armour before heading into battle. Is it cowardly or just common sense.
2. The Berserker- If you find yourself charging into battles no plan, only the drive to take as many of the enemy with you, and you find RTS?s slow and boring. Then you just may be a berserker.
3. The Explorer- Games with large with plenty of new place to visit and explore such as Fallout 3 or Oblivion are the bread and butter of the Explorer.
4. The Camper- universally hated the Camper, need I say more.
5. The Strategist- The complete opposite of the berserker. Takes all possible scenarios uses every piece of info to conquer any situation.
6. The Dominator- These are the ones who want to be best at every game and be better than any opponent. One word sums up these gamers: Teabag.
7. The Monogamer- Gamers who find a particular game genre and stick to it. The ones who moan that they don?t want to join in till you put on something in their comfort zone.
8. The Grazer- Often casual gamers who are open minded about all genres and will happily have a go at anything.
9. The Masochist- Takes much pleasure from watching their opponent?s sad little face crumble after they whooped their ass for the 15th time on their favourite beat?em up game.

And finally
10. The Fumble- the gamer who tries really hard but always seems to lose 15 times in a row and ending up with a minus score. However despite all-thumbs-no-fingerness they seem to get on with everyone so it?s not all bad.

That would be a Sadist, not a Masochist. A Masochist is someone who enjoys the pain of themselves, whereas a Sadist is one who enjoys inflicting pain on others.

I generally play an odd mix of Strategist and Berserker, even though they're the opposite to each other. For FPS games, on one 'life' I'll be the Berserker incarnate but if I die, I may switch to Strategist in a heartbeat. If I die, I may switch back or keep at it. I try to vary my own playstyle up a bit, both to keep the enemies on their toes and to keep myself entertained.

Unleashing a hidden rocket barrage and that unsuspecting person coming round the bend after leading them through a path of overly conspicuous claymores right where you want them is something I love.

Equally, running into them, placing my shotgun between their teeth and pulling the trigger until I need to reload is equally satisfying.

Worrying, considering this was apparently done by psychoanalysts...

A source would be nice...

Anyway, I'm usually the strategist for most things, with a hearty mix of explorer in those kind of games.

I would say that I'm a combination of the hoarder and the strategist. For most games I play I go by this motto "Proper preparation prevents piss poor performance".

I'm a mix of like 3 of these. Really, it depends on the game.

In Halo and Gears, I am very much the Berserker.
In CoD 4 I'm a Sniper, so naturally a strategist.
Some of the time, I am even number 11, the Griefer... too bad it wasn't mentioned.

Found a more in depth description here [http://www.nowgamer.com/features/372/anatomy-of-a-gamer?o=0#listing]

Turns out the OP got the description of the Masochist wrong, the actual article says:

The Masochist
To the Masochist, games are like mighty stallions that need to be broken. If you actually derived pleasure from playing Ninja Gaiden Black, look no further for your gamer type. The Masochist plays games on the highest difficulty setting on a self-centred mission to prove they have what it takes to be the best. The problem with the Masochist is that they only drink from a shallow pool of games as they spend most of their time repeating sections and levels ad infinitum until they perfect everything. Like Arnie in The Terminator, the Masochist can?t be bargained with. He can?t be reasoned with. He doesn?t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until the game is completed. If you?ve sailed through Dragon Force on Expert in Guitar Hero then the chances are you?re a Masochist and you can?t hide it.

What It Says About You
You see frustration and pain as a natural, even pleasurable part of gaming. And we don?t want to get too Freudian, but some psychologists have even suggested that masochistic behaviour occurs because childhood fantasies have been suppressed. Games, of course, are a great outlet for such pent-up emotions.

Natural Habitat
The beat-?em-up has long been the domain of the Masochist, and Capcom is their publisher of choice.
Which would be a masochistic tendency rather than the kind described in the OP.

This is me. I love games that let me explore a large world.
