It's not a legitimate diagnostic test anymore, since it's become so widespread that people's answers are no longer pure. The same thing happens occasionally with Thematic Apperception Test pictures. If one gets out there into the general public, it loses its usefulness. In the case of this question, it only works if someone has never heard it before, and thus is reacting based on his internal logic. If you come up with the right answer, your logic is messed up. For instance, the first time someone asked me this question, I spent a good hour trying to come up with something that made sense, without coming up with the right answer:
The point is that only a disturbed mind would come to that conclusion as making any sort of sense. But, since many people have heard the question, people would either be able to give the right answer when they normally wouldn't even come close (as with me), or would be able to avoid giving the right answer if that's actually what they came up with (since no one wants to be labeled crazy).

Her sister is in a relationship/engaged/married to that man. So the woman will be sure to see him again at her own sister's funeral.
Possibly to attract this man in some way, maybe he liked her sister more, or possibly because he likes coming to funerals so if she kills her sister theirs a chance he'll turn up. Though choosing a family member to kill seems a stupid choice as your more likely to be caught as opposed to killing a stranger. Also families are the best choice when finding emotionally blinded people to take advantage of.

Because her sister knew where the gold was. she gave up the information easily, only a few hours of torture. She was of no further use.
