do you even care if people start commenting on your threads? Is it really necessary if you get badges from posts? Do you even post threads?
in fact, why do you even create a thread?

What discussion value is there in this?
the transference of opinions of strangers.

I try---not saying I succeed, but I try---to provide the forum with something that is inherently interesting. To give people a question to ponder that hasn't been brought up before (or at least not recently---in lieu of the search bar I use my own frequent visits here as a sort of mental "if I haven't seen it, nobody else has" hedge.) To tell old stories like that nutty guy in the bar. To maybe inspire a bunch of folks who are a lot younger than I am and show them that "yes, it sucks, but facing it head-on gives you badass points."

And maybe, just maybe, to learn something about myself in the feedback I receive. There's one guy on here who probably thinks of me as nothing more than a braggart with too many sexual conquests and a thoroughly unmerited good opinion of myself (really, you don't HAVE to read "When Uninteresting Women Attack"---which, by the way, may become a running series. The first two were recent dating fails, but I've got a whole lifetime full of dating fails!) There are women who think highly of me (or at least don't hate me), which makes my singlehood a little more bearable while I wait to meet a girl worth setting my singlehood aside for. I've made friends here and continue to do so seemingly by the day.

So yeah. I DO care if people comment on my threads and make discussions and recognize That Guy With The Rat? as a valued member of the community. Otherwise why even bother posting?

Usually I create a thread to inform about something new game-wise or news. I think a news story thread about Russians in the street got about four pages worth of response.

Mind you I don't really make my own now. Oddly my new game threads become actualy news articles an hour later, or get replaced by another thread with the exact same info, but still becomes more popular.

I've never created a thread. I dunno, I guess I can't think of any subject that I'd need someone's opinion of or want to show to someone. I've had ideas for threads, but never got around to actually creating them.

I make threads in an attempt to attract high post count folks like Fuburt or Hubilub or Aylaine...

Uh... I mean to create discussion and crack lame jokes, such is my name after all.

The same reason you just did, to see what other people opinions are and to start discussion. Pretty self explanatory.

I've made a few threads, but they usually die down pretty quick.

Though it does give me some glee when people comment on them.

When I make a thread, it's to make something happen. Usually to get some discussion going, or getting to know the community better. I don't care all that much about the thread badges.

I haven't made a thread in months though.

I hope I entice somebody to comment in the threads I create, as that's pretty much the only way I can tell whether or not anyone actually read what I posted all the way through. Which is important, as user reviews are the only [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.230423-Gildans-Guide-to-Good-Music-Hurt-Vol-1] sort of thread I create - I may not be trying to start a discussion, but a review that goes entirely unremarked is frankly a trifle aggravating.

Fortunately for my inflated sense of self esteem, I've managed to attract comments in all but 2 of my love letters to obscure albums, after a particularly bothersome patch where nobody said anything in my 2nd through 4th reviews - I choose to believe that everyone contributing to the view count had read them all the way through and agreed with me entirely but in such a way that they felt they had nothing noteworthy to contribute, as that hypothetical scenario involved the most ego stroking, but it was still a rather disheartening slump after my initial review actually provoked feedback of exactly the sort I was after (people who were unfamiliar with the album I wrote about deciding my description sounded intriguing and checking it out for themselves).

Is it okay for me to creep out because that looks exactly like my granddad when he was younger? o_O

OT: I create threads out of boredom, wondering stuff, and laughs. Sometimes a combination of the 3.

But... I have breasts! I'll NEVER be able to pull off that look with them! D:
Can I have a fitted jacket?

But yeah, I like talking to the 'Scapists. And despite what some people with only a few hundred posts under their belt say, I know the 'Scapist is filled with a lot of genuine, and good people to talk with. You gotta just tell the annoying people to scram.

Breasts go well with leather jackets!
[small]Just sayin'...[/small]

I'll usually post a thread if something takes my fancy, but rarely. I've made about 3 or 4 threads total. The last was when I watched No Country for Old Men and had a brain melt from how good it was.

To answer your questions in the order you asked them.

No, unless it's a review. I hate the fact that sometimes a review by me and indeed, anybody else, can have about 200 views but no comments. It's always been something that has annoyed me ever since I started writing them. Many people take hours, days, maybe even weeks writing, fine tuning and making their reviews perfect then no one comments on them.

As for the badges, seeing as the only one I'm missing is the 'Forum Inferno' badge for having over 100,000 views and I'll know for a fact I'll never get it, I don't really care any more. When I started here, I wanted every badge going.

Whenever something takes my mind, yes. Hell, a couple of months ago, I was going through a thread making patch. I made around 6 in a month in Off-Topic and all of them where...well, slightly crazy. >>

And I create a thread to gather people's opinions and to see if people are willing to discuss weird things that they never normally think about, like whether or not you find armpits attractive or if you believe that karma exists. And I create reviews to get my opinion across and to also have people criticise my work/writing style.
