I hadn't watched everything yet either, but the lady in the middle said she wants thr mini map backMaybe I'll listen to it later but lemme just guess:
- It should have more interesting exploration, not just map markers where you press a button to chase the blue icon (insert reference to Elden Ring or Kingdom Come Deliverance or Indian Jones).
- It should have better combat because of (whatever games are considered to have good combat, I lost track) or less combat because it's AssCreed should be about sneaking around.
- It should be like Hitman, using the environment more.
- Bloat open world ubisoft formula handholding icons checklist engaging (gotta cover those SEO gamer journo words!)
Given the cycle of nostalgia, how long until Ubisoft formula open world handholding icon games are popular again? Currently I'd say we're in the klugy janky brown-era PS2->Skyrim nostalgia phase, a day I didn't think I'd ever see, so maybe like 5 years until Immortals Fenyx Rising will be get a remaster and be hailed as the good ol' days of gaming?I hadn't watched everything yet either, but the lady in the middle said she wants thr mini map back
PS1 and PS2 era, but without the brown. Seeing the indie trends recently. The closest so far to brown was Evil West, but that has way more color than a majority of seven generation games of that ilk. It is more of a 360/PS3 throwback. Gungrave GORE and HF RUSH are 6th PS2 throwbacks you're looking at.we're in the klugy janky brown-era PS2-
If remakes count, Resident Evil 4 is very brown, at least in the Village. Turns to grey in the Island, but the Castle has a fair bit of color to it. So they got that much right. The closest so far to brown was Evil West, but that has way more color than a majority of seven generation games of that ilk.
The island has a lot of blue when outside. Brown when you're in the cave sections, but there is still a distinct art style to them.. Turns to grey in the Island,
That still has plenty of color. It's really only brown in the early segments. Dynsaty Warriors Origins is actually colorful, while only having brown areas in the early levels. Indiana Jones still has you explore lush green jungles at some point. Ninja Gaiden II Black is a remake of 360 from 2008, that was and still is more colorful than the game which were out at the time. II Black has the same amount of color as the original ,but better lighting and shading. The closest the game ever gets to brown in either versions, is this one boss section in the Underworld fighting Volf (INVINCIBLE RULER OF STORMS!!!). You're there for like 5 minutes tops.Dragon's Dogma 2
420p CRT TVs have a niche use actually, some pixel art games from that era were drawn to look "right" when displayed on a CRT, so if you wanna play those games, you'll actually get more out of them playing them on an old tv like that. The reason that I say "brown" is a state of mind more than a color palette is precisely because I wasn't talking about actual color.
Basically I was thinking about jank, and a sort of charming kluginess that marked the late PS1 to early PS3 years. That feeling of trying to walk around a mountain and it looks like you can climb it but you can't except sometimes you can if press spacebar enough? Or where there would be a day/night cycle but it wasn't always consistent. Where you would get arrested for accidentally stepping on a cat in one part of town because the movement is so janky but then you can just loot the local lord's throne room in front of guards and no one cared.
And at the time we were cool with it because, hey, that's how video games are, it's pushing technical boundaries, we're all figuring this out. Or we'd just have fun breaking it, using mods, messing around.
That is brown to me.
But then AAA games got technically better and I got older and that's no longer charming or interesting to me. For the same reason I don't want to go back to 420s TV resolution or rewinding tapes.
Except hearing people talk about and seeing clips of the games I mentioned- man, they seem so "brown."
Anyway, I listed to Easy Allies and after the lady mentioned wanting minimaps and being a video game garbageman (cleaning up open world checklist stuff, a term I like and am gonna use now), she made an excellent point about the positive value of AC games being like this, expressed better than when I've made a similar point:
For many gamers, it's like the only non-sports game they're gonna play every once or twice a year. It's comforting, it's a predictable level of quality, and it's something we can play for like a year and then every couple of years there's another one in a different setting which is cool.
Huber did good explaining the title of the video and he's right I'm sure about its limitations and I'm also not surprised. He is not the only one to criticize the story, characters, quest design, and voice acting. And I expected this because Mirage was sorely lacking in this. It's why I'm waiting a while to play it. I just cannot justify paying full price for it if- as he and many are calling out- every quest is just "go here kill that" and the assassinations aren't of interesting characters or with cool set pieces.
I find that a lot of issues with pixel art looking 'bad' can also be fixed by lowering the display resolution without having to apply a CRT filter, or buy a CRT TV on Ebay and receive a box of packing peanuts. Maybe not to the same extent as the CRT but it's better than nothing.420p CRT TVs have a niche use actually, some pixel art games from that era were drawn to look "right" when displayed on a CRT, so if you wanna play those games, you'll actually get more out of them playing them on an old tv like that.
Elon Takes a Swing, Assassin's Creed Swings Back Hard
That's when Elon Musk jumped in. In two separate posts, Musk called Hasan a "fraud" and said he was promoting a "terrible game just for the money." Harsh words, especially from someone with over 200 million followers.
But then, the Assassin's Creed social media team fired back, and they didn't miss. Replying directly to Musk, they wrote:
"Is that what the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account told you?"
The post quickly exploded, racking up nearly a hundred thousand likes and over two million views (at the time of writing) in just two hours. Many people online saw it as a brutal and hilarious jab at Musk, calling out the idea that he might not actually play the games he talks about.

Later, when Grummz posted a screenshot from an article claiming Assassin's Creed Shadows isn't the hit Ubisoft "desperately needs," the account replied again: "Our game is out."

Short and cold, just the way internet clapbacks usually hit hardest. This whole thing follows recent headlines showing Assassin's Creed Shadows had a strong launch, with 2 million players in two days after launch. While some analysts say it's not tracking as high as Valhalla or other major releases, the online conversation seems to be just as focused on the people arguing about the game as the game itself.
The jab about Path of Exile 2 isn't random either, it's a reference to Elon Musk's earlier controversy where he admitted to using account boosting services to stay competitive in games like Path of Exile 2 and Diablo IV.

After initially denying the claims, Musk later said it was necessary to keep up with hardcore players, especially those in Asia. So when the Assassin's Creed account asked if it was "the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account" who told him the game was bad, it was a cheeky nod to that drama, and a pretty deep cut.
Lowering resolution fixes the sprite art looking overly pixelated, but not other aspects. It's definitely better than nothing though.I find that a lot of issues with pixel art looking 'bad' can also be fixed by lowering the display resolution without having to apply a CRT filter, or buy a CRT TV on Ebay and receive a box of packing peanuts. Well its an Ubisoft open world game so it likely is complely mediocre. Those games are the quintesencial 6 to 7/10 games. Which actually isn't too bad. They won't set your world on fire but they're a great fall back option during release draughts.Yahtzee finds the game mediocre.
Not for me, if we're talking AC. I got so many other fallback options.they're a great fall back option during release draughts.
I'd say u/BrawlMan is being generous. Yahtzee f'n hates this game, and of course he does. Not only is it mediocre ("bland" is his favorite descriptor) but a complete waste of time for a reviewer interested in new game ideas and narrative driven experiences. And it's like 80 hours or whatever.Well its an Ubisoft open world game so it likely is complely mediocre. Those games are the quintesencial 6 to 7/10 games. Which actually isn't too bad. Ubisoft and Tencent are forming a new company that will take control of its most successful franchises: Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six Tencent will be a minority shareholder in the new venture, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
