Alright fellow Escapists! Let's say you've won the impossible lottery and can go visit any point in human history for limited period of time without changing history (the Impossible Lottery folks have safeguards in place to prevent your death or any changes to the timeline. . . . . just to mess with the folks wanting to go back and kill Hitler for the lulz). This is not a permanent move, just a tourist-style vacation. When and where would you go?

I'm torn with wanting to go back and see the Roman Republic when things were going well. Say Pompeii perhaps around 70 C.E. (before the volcano changed the scenery). Or, perhaps back to watch the proceedings in Philadelphia during the Constitutional Convention (and I would DEFINITELY bring a concealed camera/recorder to preserve what I witnessed).

So what would your travel plans be?

Clearly there is only one choice. A grassy knoll in Dallas on November 22 1963 and shout "duck"

One of the Dynasty eras in China.

If I was able to speak Chinese fluenty I would disguised myself as one of the pleasants and just walked around in one of the market. In saying so I probably still stick out from looking quite tall (is science were right that people in the olden day were short due to the lack of nutrient in the foods).

I'd want to go to the future, by 100 years, look around, go 'Oh, that's how it all turns out' and walk away.

For me, one of the major problems with time travel is that a lot of the historically interesting places were large cities without a sewer system.

However, going back in time, seeing what happened and then proving historians wrong about things has its appeal.

And then JFK turns around and says: "OOH! I love ducks." and gets shot anyway.

My answer to this question has always been woodstock. Most of my favourite musicians died before I was born so any kind of time travelling I take part in would mostly involve going to see them play.

i'd go back to the beginning, where it all started, obviously.
choosing any other point in time and space would just be a wasted opportunity. i'd always wonder 'how did it all come to this?'. the beginning, where it all started, is the only point in time and space where i could find the answer, since it would be how and from whence it all came.

"KRYTEN!!"

OT: I quote H.G. Wells, in reference to the original Time Traveller. "For my part, I intend taking a journey into the future." I'd like to see what is to come. The past is known. The future is unknown.

Probably check out various periods of history for myself (hopefully with automatic translators in place since I only speak fluent English), oh, and possibly relive events from the past 20+ years.

I have only one question. Souvenirs?

Would it be considered changing history if I walked up to H.P. Lovecraft and said "A lock of your hair would look great on my wall."?

If being a dimension-crossing hair and toenail bandit were off the table, I guess I would visit Feudal Japan. There's a lot of mystery and misinformation surrounding that time period.

I'd go back about 40 years with a bunch of modern technology like smartphones and a top of the line PC and give them to some electrical engineers. See what happens when I get back to our time.

Souvenirs are quite acceptable. The fine folks at Impossible Lottery will make certain that no changes happen to the timeline, however.

We regret to inform you that the TOS relevant to the Impossible Lottery do not allow for alterations of the timeline. They would take steps to ensure your carry-on luggage remained back in the present.

The intent is not "How would you change history" but as a time-travelling tourist, what times/places would you like to experience and see? Sorry to be a killjoy in that regard.

I should have probably read the OP in a bit more detail XD

OK fine, I'd go 1000 years into the future to see how far we've come as a species. Or whether we ended up killing each other.

You've spoiled it by saying human history. I'd totally wanna see dinosaurs. Failing that I guess I'd like to go back around 2000 years to the eastern Med, so we can sort this shit out once and for all.
