Ok well i'm not one for superstition in fact i hate it but the other day i lost something in my house and spent at least an hour looking for it. I called my mom to ask her if she had seen the thing i had lost and she said no but calm down take a towel, tie it into a knot and put it under your bed. I did this and within 2 minutes i had found the thing i was looking for!!! I didn't even have to look for it, it was on the floor in my living room.

Has anyone ever heard of this trick before, what is it called and who made it up!? I've been using the trick almost after every time i loose something and it works!

No, my mum says its only because I look at the walls and not at the objects. (This happens to me quite frequently, the last time I actually picked up the device, I was looking for, to see if it was underneath itself.)

Haha, oops i thought this was about the "Xbox 360 towel trick". But as for lost items, maybe i should try this to find my house keys...

I usually get very pissy and yell at everyone to find it.

That way other people do it for me, and I don't have to look at all.

:p

Errr no I never heard about that. But maybe its because you take your mind off of it for a few minutes and then you relax and your memory decides to stop holding information hostage.

On a side note your post sounds like something someone would say in an infomercial.

I would say that there is probably some scientific reasoning behind the towel trick.

When you're looking for something, you're subconsciously going "oh, its got to be here!", so you look, and it often isn't.

I posit that your brain cycles this routine over and over again and all that happens is you end up not actually looking for what you want but rather you end up looking at where you feel it should be, which of course is pointless if it is somewhere else.

Tying a knot in a towel, is a deceptively complicated action, requiring a significant portion of brain power (that 'we only use 10% of our brain power' talk is BS - huge amounts of brain power are devoted just to movement and coordination). This effectively clears your mind of the unhelpful thinking about where an object is and leaves you simply with the wish to have the object in your possession again. This desire (which you would retain despite towel related activities, unless you're that fickle) causes your brain to look out for the object and thus makes it easier to find.

Putting it under the bed, well thats just an additional thing to clear your mind.

N.B. This is just a theory - there are doubtless some exceptions to this example - sorry for the wall of text.

I've done that too! I'm glad that nobody saw it or I would've been red-faced. Still not as bad as losing my glasses on top of my head or, my personal worst, losing my pencil while holding it in my left hand.

I'll say this much. There is some wierd stuff in this world, not sure if I believe in something like this, but if somehow it DID work like you describe I'd be very wary about using something like that since the world is a messed up place and there is always a price far in excess of any benefit you gain.

Though honestly I'd immediatly suspect what is actually going on is that whomever told you about that trick is messing with you by grabbing things, waiting for you to do it, and then leaving them out. You'd be surprised at how far people will sometimes go to play tricks on other people.

I used a trick like that one.
Except I took a towel, tied it into a knot, and used that knot to beat people until someone told me where that thing I was looking for was. The soft knot hurt just enough to make them talk, but not enough to leave a mark. But I suppose throwing it under your bed is just as good, if not as hilarious.

I have lost the shoes I was wearing, the cap in my hand and the shirt I was about to wear that was right in front of me all at the same time, I was so stressed that I forgot I had them, my parents spoke in hushed whispers about me for about an hour after that...

And I'm sorry to say this but this is the most hilarious thread I've ever read, I mean people, just get into the right mindset and read it from the top. I lost three mouthfuls of Milo reading this page. Congrats Jas0913.

Nope, never heard of that one before. Usually I find if I lose something and I desperately need to find it, I'll go into a state of panic and when that happens it could be right in front of my nose and I wouldn't find it.
