Well, having listened to the band, my opinion is as follows. Personally, I don't like them one whit. I can see that they would appeal to some people but I am definitely not one of them, especially since I read their publicity material before listening to them. Here's a bit more detail:

The music is, quite simply, dull. The usual chord progressions are being used to construct a simple melody which is them ruined by overuse of synth, mix dubs, and off-melody medley sections in most of their songs. While the band's music is not without charm it's neither technically proficient nor innovative. Considering the band's publicity makes a big deal about how original and innovative the band is this is very disappointing.
They are somewhat redeemed by their cabaret style of live performance, but this is too little, too late, since in order to appreciate said performance you must already be a fan of their musical style. It also does not do enough to justify the off-melody sections in the name of cabaret.
Their lyrics are probably the most laudable quality of the band, as these are intelligent and well constructed for the rhythm. No complaints here, but if the best thing about your band is the lyrics you should be a songwriter for somebody else and leave the music and performances up to them.

Why should I care that " Kate "Hayley Jane" Nickerson " is joining?
Because HJ is awesome. And because it will signal another new direction for the disco punk sensation.
Disco Punk is a sensation? Fooled me. Never heard of it.
Well, that's because Disco Punk exists soley as Trap door
If it exists solely in one band maybe it should stay in the primordial ooze of music.

On a side note I have a great idea I'm going to go and make a thread about a band I like, and maybe other bands I like, those would totally not be spammy pointless threads at all!
That's simply mean. THis is not a pointless spammy thread. It can be used on an endless time frame to provide new news aboutt he band. And to enlighten everyone to TRap Door--the best band in history.

Well, the lyrics were always supposed ot be important, but i think they simply would not work by another artist at all.
I i think Trap Door is original, i don't know of any other bands that sound like them.
And it's all about the experience, they ARE original, they have had dancing Men In Black, a wrestling cow, Wiggly get his diaper changed, the passion of the wiggly and al sorts of cool stuff.

I've only just read the first post properly. I'm sorry, but even if the music was like pure orgasm, i cannot listen to them.

It was formed by Wiggly, who was previously in a band called Wiggly Fred and the Cabbage-a-go-go when he was a teen.
No. Just no.
Ok so it sounds weird but allow me to explain. It was originally called Epicurean. They were kids, they released a single, and Wigs just changed their name to Wiggly Fred and the cabbage a-go-go without telling the others, that's where the name Wiggly came from i think.
They did crazy stuff like smoke machines in churches, smashing up TVs etc

How much news are you expecting? It's going to have to move fast to keep the thread going. So far the only reason it's still alive is because people keep insulting the band. Who, by the way, are most definitely not the best band in history.

Hmmm, best band in history. I don't remember voting for that, it seems like something we all should have a say in.
Also who says other threads with different bands can't be used "on an endless time frame to provide new news about the band. And to enlighten everyone to [BAND NAME]". Nope no spam here.

"Let's do all sorts of weird shit" isn't originality. Plenty of bands have gone the 'cabaret' route to audience entertainment and arguably done it better (Scissor Sisters, for example, but they don't have to rely on it all the time). I mean, every performance from every band is automatically original, but that doesn't make their ideas original, which is what their publicity material falsely implies.

The things they do are original, wrestling is not something other bands have done. And their songs are original. how many other bands do you know of who sing about Roswell, exercise tiger, s4, the epic of gilgamesh, etc?

And there probably won't be alot of news come to think of it. THe thread can sort of disappear and then when there is news i can find it in the archives and post the news.

Yes it is. Several bands have had themselves wrestling, fighting ninjas or taking part in a brawl in music videos. Not original. In fact, you seem to think that anything that hasn't been done exactly like Trap Door did it as being something original. You're mistaking 'overly specific' for 'genuinely original'.

Roswell: PH101: Songs about unexplained and possibly alien goings on? A fucktonne. Songs specifically about Roswell and Area 51: Love songs from Area 51, Area 51: Artension, Pixies: Motorway to Roswell

Exercise Tiger: Probably none, but plenty have sung about military fuckups. What makes using that one in particular so wildly original?

S4: What does this even mean? Is it a car? Is it a shop? Either way, it's not original, cars and shops have been sung about innumerable times.

The Epic of Gilgamesh: Again, you're mistaking specific for original. Bands have done songs about The Voluspa, The Iliad, and Beowulf. What makes picking a particular epic poem original in light of other people having already done songs about other epic poems?

Look, just admit that yor made the thread because you think your personal opinion is somehow special and important and you had the hubris to assume that other people ought to agree with you, then we can all move on with our lives. It's okay, everyone on the internet does it sometimes, I'm doing it now by arguing with you, and you're only, what, 17? Nobody will blame you for a bit of youthful impetuosity.

I'm 16.
but hey, no one i know likes Trap Door, so i didn't expect a great reaction, i just anted to let people know wbout the band and post news. And no, i don't think my opinion is important at all. Just the opposite in fact.

I'm not exactly sure what S4 is actually. I don't believe it's a car or shop though.
I would also liek tio point out that TD sing about racism and prejudice too, althoguh i know they are not the only ones to do that.

As for the wrestling, i didn't mean in videos, i mean if you watch them live they wrestle on-stage during the performance. They do all sorts of crazy gimmicks.
Wigs even played a guitar with a toaster, and with a violin once (no, not the bow thing for a violin- the violin itself).
And they're the only band i ever saw that have the lead singer get whipped and speak in --i think it was --aramaic. (it was called Passion of the Wiggly)

Hmmm, with regards to that last comment, age four years and go visit a BDSM club on cabaret night... Admittedly they're usually not singing it aramaic, but they're doing a lot more than just being whipped while they sing.

*Wonders why he just admitted to seeing that*

I saw this in Spinal Tap, member that everyone, we should make this thread about upcoming news for Spinal Tap. We could cover both the band and the movie so we'll have double news.

All in favor of this becoming the official Spinal Tap news thread say "Aye"

EDIT: I guess I win the thread, do I get to be important now?

There is 3 types of people in the world - people who haven't heard of trap door, people who hate trap door, and people who are dean.

hmmm, so maybe Spinal Tap did it too, it doens't make a difference really. It's not something most bands do. And no, you don't win the thread.

Okay, (ZHU) Michael definitely does win this thread. Twice. I award him ten super-internet-bombs capable of defeating any of the secret Bosses after level 57.

Admittedly, they have performed at concerts, but suggesting this become a news thread for Spinal Tap with a straight face is made of win and deadpan humour. I still think Saucy Jack would have been better than the new Sweeny Todd with Johnny Depp.
