Its not just boys, girls can be quiet violent too, games are an outlet to let out the angry that if you took out on another human being would land you in prison. People either are or can be violent.

I know if I have a bad day I'll Slap on some GTA and run around causing havoc and it makes the stress of my day melt away. Everyone needs that sort of outlet so we don't hurt ourselves or others.

The part of this story that I think was the most interesting was that a parent finally sat down and actually played these games before flying off the handle and condemning them once again.

Hooray! A writer TRIED something before writing about it...
Now if only the folks at Fox News would give it a try!

To reiterate the point...

FINAL-FUCKING_LY. Somebody who actual tried videogames instead of condemning them.

Wait a second here; are we being told that something somewhat logical was just rationalized?
Get outta here. No, seriously! I don't like my emotions being toyed with.

It's so beautiful...

Ah, a book intended for american families that's actually a voice of logic and reason.
This reminds me of Wild at Heart, which is a book by a christian on how modern society is stripping us of our masculinity, and that we all need to go out and have an adventure, a brush with danger or some sort to rekindle it. This book reminds me somewhat of that.
I haven't read book this thread speaks of, but even if you're not christian, I'd reccomend Wild at Heart. It briefly mentions video games, saying that they're not to blame for violence, and to spend time with your kids and stuff.
But yes, this book could be a great thing indeed. I wonder if it'll be on the news.

The book as a whole aside, it's good to hear that she sat down and actually tried something before knocking it. Especially publicly. Now if we could only get people in 'power' to do the same thing, we might get somewhere. Good article.
I agree. It's very rarely that you see people doing that.

hey i heard that Obama did grass in his time, is it so hard to imagine him sitting down and playing a couple of rounds of L4D or similar?
DO.I.LOOK.LIKE.ONE.OF.THEM? :)

Possibly on if it's Versus mode, he gets to play Louis and Gordon Brown is the Boomer :)

This does look like a good book though, if I get the chance to pick one up, I might just do that.

Doing this news post made me think of my sister. When her first child, a boy, was born, she and her husband resolved to raise him in an egalitarian, non-violent environment. No toy guns, no violent entertainment, nothing to promote or even acknowledge violence as fun. It was a noble attempt to raise Man 2.0, and... it failed.

Now she has three boys, and she's adjusted her expectations somewhat: Just don't break the furniture.

Which isn't to imply that boys, or people in general, can't be cultured, softened and raised to live a more enlightened life. But we are what we are. Violence strikes me as kind of like sex, in that at some point it demands to be explored and if you deny that very natural impulse, bad things will often result.
