I've read a lot about season six because my network isn't up to what the Americans are and I've heard all this stuff about dragons and a phoenix but there's one problem...they look human.

Quick, what's the first thing that springs to mind when you think of a dragon?! A giant fire breathing lizard? What about a phoenix? A big fire bird? Apparently not.

Is there a reason as to why they're doing this? Are they limited on special effects because when I think about it, there has never been a fight with a big monster (not including bugs) that wasn't just a guy in a suit or with some makeup. Or in the case with Hellhounds (you know, the massive black dogs with tusks?) they just make them invisible. Sure they can do black smoke but I want to see a REAL MONSTER.

Okay basically I'm asking if anyone knows why they're doing this?

Budget issues, or they want to do a different take then the expected creature.

I quite enjoy the show myself because of the avoidance of flashy effects.

The Siren episode in particular had me glued to my treadmill for an hour. >_>

What? I watched it at the gym.

Legs felt like jelly. I'm only supposed to do 15 minutes.

well for the dragon issue that you have, dragon in myth can turn into humans if the dragon chooses to, and in that episode i believe they do show a cgi dragon for a little bit. As for the hell hounds ,in my opinion, i think they choose to leaves the hounds invisible to add to the suspense and they would look out of place and cheesy if they made a cgi render of one. i missed the phoenix episode but refer to above for the reason i.e. chessy and out of place.

Well, I'm not sure how far you are in the show, but the plot has been getting out of hand since about the third season. The reason that season 6 seems so out of place is because the show "ended" with the fifth season when they tied up every loose end and solved the major apocalypse.

But due to massive popularity the show continues and gets further and further away from the original premise of monster hunting.

I assume it is mostly budget, also if there were giant monsters running around it would take away from the paranoia that is caused by the idea of having Dragons, Demons, Ghosts and all other forms of monster around you at all times in hidden in plain sight.

but they hunted monsters in the last ep....
someones just a sourpuss.
Hahahaha. No, I just meant that in the beginning the monsters looked like monsters but since the end of Season 2 the monsters have been becoming more and more human. Demons and angels especially seem to just be super-powerful humans with less characterization that the two main characters.
