Ian jumped down from the truck. He retrived his backpack and rifle and slung them over his back. He pulled his pistol out of his belt and unscrewed the silencer, slipping it into a pouch on his holster. He did a quick check over his pistol. He studied the small village they had parked near. The hangers are most likely used for vehicle storage, doubt they will contain they console to open the doors. The building near the hangers is our best bet, assuming the power is still on. The over two buildings are most likely living quaters for the guards stationed outside, check them afterwards.

"Hey," he called to the party, "I'm going to check out the buildings, see if I can find anything." He started off towards the building near the hangers, pistol held at the ready.

 

[Chaos Incarnate]

Delrath tapped his nose gently, Strange scents not natural Delrath thought. He jumped off the truck landing with a heavy thud. "No one will kill you but me" He said slowly, Delrath stood silently smelling the plants. Delrath growled and shoved Mortis out of the way as a strange, large, insect leapt out of the foliage attaching itself to Delrath's face.

Mortis had returned to a trance like state holding the thick curved glass to his eye as he examined the course hanging vines. His curiosity driven meditation was abruptly interrupted as Delrath's, large, leathery hand closed in around the back of his cranium. Mortis, for a brief moment, had the morbid and fascinating thought of experiencing his own skull being crushed in the hand of this monolithic beast.

His mental query was to be postponed as he found himself being lauched to the right in a fashion similar to when the mutant had attacked him on the river's edge. When he came to land he was greeted by the cushioned embrace of the thick green grass but hardly had the time to enjoy it as he lept to action as soon as his feet were grounded. He quickly cusped his rifle and pulled the iron sight to his blood flecked eye. He was about pull the trigger almost instictively, but held back when he sighted the insect clinging to Delraths face. It was the same emerald green as the plant Mortis was examining with 6 spindly legs coiled around his head.

"Fascinating, see if you can keep it in one piece"

 

[Chaos Incarnate]

Delrath felt a sharp pain as the insect pierced through his cheek gouging out the flesh. "DIE!!" Delrath yelled grasping the insect and in one swift and brutal motion he tore the insect from his face and crushed it, hot green juices splashed onto his face. Delrath tossed the carcass at Mortis, it landed a few inches from his feet and twitched for a second before laying still. "I have scent.... Incoming" Delrath growled as the low buzzing of wings cut through the air and a dozen similar insects emerged from the plants.

Kreth had jumped down from the truck he had been in, with his knives out once they reached the large 'hill'. Turns out it wasn't a hill at all. Apparently somebody had built it. Kreth had never seen anything so huge when he was back with the crucible, at least nothing built by men. The buildings were the typical ruins that he had come across in his travels, even if some were rather large and well preserved.

It was then that he heard Delrath yell out. Kreth spun around to see a large insect latched to the brute's face. To no surprise, Delrath tore the thing off and crushed with his bare hands. He heard Delrath growl out that more were coming just when Kreth picked up the sound of wings. Sure enough, more emerged and started heading towards the group. Apparently they had disturbed their hive or resting area. Kreth grinned as he readied his knives and moved towards the approaching insects.

"Not men, but still good kills. And perhaps good meals."

Mortis jumped back as the cluster of insects burst from the trees where he had just been examining. While making his backwood strides he noted a fairly large chunk of Delrath's cheek gouged out. He pulled the rifle in close and lined up a shot in the direction of bugs.

"So they're carnivorous and attack in swarms!" Mortis announced as he pulled the trigger. As the bullet left the chamber Mortis' face illuminated with the same sadistic grin he donned whenever he got the opportunity to spill blood. The bullet flew out at an astounding speed hitting just on mark. The round burst through the head of one of the emerald Insects and proceeded to penetrate the thorax of another behind it.

One of the insects however had circled around Mortis and gripped the back of his throat much like it had with Delrath's face. The creature's jaws dug deep into the back of his neck taking a sizeable piece of flesh. Mortis retaliated by driving the scalpel he had moments before been using in his investigation into one of the bugs legs causing it to detach and take flight. As it began to fly towards another victim it's course began to lose trajectory and it collapsed to the lush grass.

"Sanguine..."

 

[Dectomax]

Marcus stepped out of the truck, unslinging his rifle and slipping it into his shoulder with a practised ease. Slowly and methodically Marcus let off short, controlled bursts, with an unnatural accuracy. The first struck a bug in the head, leaving nothing but a faint green mist and a mangled body slumped on the floor. The thunderous roar of gunfire echoed around the plains.

In the distance, the clouds were growing darker and the time between thunder and lightning was shortening. The storm was approaching.

"Holy Shit!" Ashe yelled as the insect lash out at Delrath out of the corner of her eyes. Ashe turned and ran towards the pair. One of the insects noticed her approach and leaped at her. Ashe fired a barrage of buckshot killing the creature even before it hit the ground. A few more of the swarm noticed their comrade torn to pieces and charged at Ashe.

Ashe fired a few more shells until she had to reload. She dug into her bag and drew out one of the red shells that she noticed. Deciding that there would be no time to deliberate, Ashe slid the shell in the shotgun.

"Watch out!" Ashe yelled not knowing what the shell could do. At the moment she fired a wall of fire erupted from the barrel of the shotgun scorching everything within 10 meters in front of Ashe. The burning insects were in a frenzy as suddenly they were covered in flames.

Location: Shaun's Home-base bunker

Shaun was lying on top of his couch drinking some of his home made energy drink that his parents taught him while he was on the farm before That event happened, "Man, what the hell will I do now, I cannot go back to the scientists they will experiment on me when I tell them what happened" Shaun muttered to himself as he got off the couch and refreshed himself with a sponge to the face and noticed his eyes had a blue tinge to them, "To bad I cant have a damn shower, looks like I have to control this power first. Shaun got dressed and cooked him a decent breakfast of canned fruit and cereal, Shaun then put his two pistols in his pocket and holstered his sword on his back and stepped back outside and locked the door.

Shaun walked up the steps to outside, into the torn apart outside world, the sun glared in Shaun's eyes, he made sure he had the essentials on him, his wallet, his keys, flask, and harmonica, Shaun kept walking past the water tower and crops until he saw a large tin shed that he built from tin metal, he then unlocked the large shutter and walked into the coolness of the shade and put on his motorcycle helmet and then jumped onto a small gift that the scientists gave him, it was a new prototype vehicle, they called it a super bike but Shaun called it Zip, it was bulky but fast, Shaun got onto the bike, moved it outside and shut the shutter and locked it, "Time to go to town" Shaun said once more to himself as he pulled the accelerator and zipped to the nearest town.

A few hours later

Shaun sighed underneath his helmet forgetting that the nearest town was a couple of hours away from his home, but after arriving on top of the hill which is 500 meters away from some abandoned hangers and quickly stopped the bike and took the helmet off and ruffled through his hair and sighed "You got to be kidding me, an acid storm, and it is almost near this position, well shit, I'm not going there!" Shaun told himself but suddenly Shaun heard a noise come from nearby, Shaun wondered what it was and started to walk off his bike and down to the back of the hanger wondering what the hell is happening so he parked his bike outside the back door of the hanger and he opened the back hanger door.

As the bugs had begun attacking the others, Blake scrambled out of the truck clutching his beretta. "Shit..." he cursed angrily, as he dodged the swooping insects as they attempted to fatally attach themselves to his throat.

Slowly taking aim, Blake shot an approaching creature and grimaced at the sickening splash of it's blood on his boots as it's decimated carapace tumbled at his feet.

Suddenly, he heard Ashe exclaim before the roar of flames engulfed the insects surrounding her and Delrath. Ducking and dodging the swooping assailants, Blake ran to their side and drew his hunting knife, readying himself with blade and firearm for the incoming strikes.

"You're lucky, kid," He said, catching the wing of an insect with an upward slash and shooting it before it hit the ground. Just as it seemed Ashe was about to respond, Blake was charged by two larger looking insects, their combined weight throwing him to the floor.

Striking out with both knife and beretta, Blake struggled with the two insects, their grotesque jaws snapping close to his face. A satisfying crunch indicated the penetration of his knife through the shell of one and it's strength slowly ebbed away as Blake twisted his knife deeper whilst still manoeuvring his head away from the deadly pair of jaws.

As the last of the bugs went down, Marcus extracted a magazine from the Steyr Aug, swiftly loading another in it's place. Looking into the distance, he saw the storm approaching. Making out they had roughly thirty minutes until it arrived, he stepped forwards. "I suggest we find a way into this dome before the storm reaches. I've heard tales of what it does to human skin and I'm not curious to see if they're true." Marcus said. He pointed to the buildings standing by the little road. "We should search 'em, maybe there's something in there that'll open these blast doors.".

Blake jumped to his feet and kicked the last insect that had been trying to kill him in the dust, executing it with a swfit shot through the head. Wiping sweat from his brow, the grizzled mutant-hunter sneered at Ashe and Delrath as he walked towards Marcus.

"Thanks for the help..." He threw at them over his shoulder, disgust dripping from his pale face. Inspecting himself as he strode towards Marcus, Blake noticed a few tears in his clothes, some large enough to show his deathly white skin underneath. "Lucky..." He said to himself, unaware that his arm had just at that moment finished completely healing the numerous cuts he had sustained during the struggle with the two insects.

Oblivious to the regeneration of his body, Blake pointed towards the nearest building. "We should go in groups...pairs, at least," he said to Marcus. "That way," he continued, "We should be ok if there are any surprises lurking inside." Admiring Marcus' weapon, Blake grinned, an action that looked more like a snarling ghoul than a smiled.

"You're stickin' with me." He laughed at the young man as he sheathed his hunting knife and reloaded his beretta.

Marcus cocked the rifle with a 'clang' and nodded at Blake. "Ford, stay with the trucks, keep a rifle handy. Just incase." Marcus yelled. Marcus made his way over to Blake and together, they headed towards the small cluster of buildings.

Apparently we're a few dozen kilometers from Sacramento(AKA Crux) and the land is generally sparse of vegetation except here. A few kilometers closer is the river where Coleman's Landing is. I think that's the general geography around us...

Ashe watched with fascination as the insects burnt to a crisp in their exoskeletons. In theory the fire would have boiled the poor things from the inside out due to their bodies but Ashe wasn't the one to find out; that was Mortis' job.

"Whatever..." Ashe said as she cocked the shotgun and the red casing flew out still smoking. She tapped the charred bodies with her boot and as it seemed so the things were dead. Ashe looked back to Blake and Marcus leaving then to Delrath.

"You alright? These things don't seem to be fond of us being here. Want to check the Hangar?" Ashe said as she looked back and forth from Delrath and the large hangars.

 

[Chaos Incarnate]

"You die without me" Delrath said slowly beating out some of the last of the fire, leaving small smoldering spots on his body. He cracked his neck and walked slowly with Ashe to the hanger, "Why useless disguise girl?"
Delrath questioned as he hurled a discarded piece of metal into the hanger. It clanked loudly and echoed several times. Delrath could smell oil and dead insects, something had killed them and been here.

 

[StormShaun]

Meanwhile the fighting was still going.

Shaun walked into the big hanger and in the hanger there were lockers, a few old and dusty terminals in the back and a big space everywhere else also there was big puddle too but Shaun avoided it, Shaun looked through the lockers to see if he can find anything useful for himself, he found some old clothes, money which he grabbed and most importantly some rubber soled boots, "These could be useful" Shaun said to himself with a smirk while changing his shoes.

After Shaun had changed his shoes he chucked his old military ones his mentor gave him and put them into his backpack he spoke, "What the hell are those people doing outside?" Shaun asks himself due to the lack of noise outside, as he gets up walks to the hanger door but suddenly a huge chunk of metal comes in and hits the ground loudly, Shaun jumps out of reflex but slips because of his new boot's soles were covered in oil.

Shaun is now on the ground, but the ground was covered in a thin substance and it covered Shaun's body and clothes, his body started to tingle, Shaun looks down and sees his body to slowly be in tangled with electricity, "Fuck, water" Shaun moaned, the increasing agony started to get more painful and painful, Shaun then moves out of the puddle quickly with a roll and then the pain got so painful that Shaun yelled out of pure agony "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!", Shaun then passed out due to the pain.

Meanwhile Outside

Delrath and Ashe were both walking slowly toward the hanger, they almost came to the door and heard a loud yell,"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!", the group outside heard ,it was a scream out of pure pain.

Ian approached the first building before the hangers. He ducked into the doorframe and tried the handle. To his surprise it was unlocked and he ducked into the building. Before he had a chance to start examining the room he heard the shouts as the group was attacked. He slammed the door shut behind him and took cover under one of the windows. He glanced out the window and saw the group being attack by a swarm of bugs. Shit, need a better view. He quickly scanned the room and spotted the stairs leading up to the second floor. He flew up the stairs and ran to one of the second floor windows. He pulled the window open and unslung his rifle. As he began to sight it on one of the bugs, a jet of flame flew across his view and he poked his head up. He relaxed a bit when he saw the smoldering vegetation and the dying bugs.

He slung his rifle back over his shoulder and retrieved his pistol from where he had dropped it on the ground. He took another glance out the window. The storm was getting uncomfertablely close. Ian shut the window and turned to begin his seach of the building.

"I wouldn't be here with you know if people really knew who I was. Being a man gets you places but being a woman gets you raped." Ashe said plainly as he loosened her voice. Ashe had gotten so used to deepening her voice frequently that it had almost become second nature for her to switch voices.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!" With the scream Ashe had raised her shotgun towards the source of the sound. Instinctively Ashe carefully walked towards the sound. On the way Ashe had stepped over the corpses of a few dead insects.

"Looks like someone else was here..."

As the two men stalked towards the building, muscles tensed, ready for ambush Blake scanned the surrounding area.

After a few minutes silence, Blake glanced at Marcus and, without his alertness faltering, addressed the young man. "Ever seen those bugs before?" He rasped, darting his eyes towards the approaching storm. "I used to hunt them as a kid... Now it's just," he paused emphatically, spitting to his right, "mutants that I aim for. Balthazaar's the only reason those abominations back there are still breathing our air."

Slowly, they approached the door of the building and Blake took a deep breath before gripping the door handle, he could feel his pulse rising; a sign that the sickness was close to hitting him. "Wha-what about y-yo-you?" He stammered, vision blurring enough to cause Marcus to become an indistinct splash of ink.

Shaking his head violently, Blake cleared his vision until the young man beside him was visible again; the sickness was avoided for now. Stepping back, he sliently gestured for Marcus to take the lead through the door.

 

[Dectomax]

Marcus nodded. "Where I grew up, there was a great forest close, some of the creatures used to end up in the village. See a few other things when I ventured with the Far traders too, they took me to some pretty fucked up places." Marcus said.

Blake seemed to freeze up for a second and Marcus took note of this. As the old man stepped away from the door, Marcus took his place. Gripping the handle tight, Rifle ready in hand he entered the house. The door was open within a second and with military precision Marcus had stepped over the threshold and already had his gun trained along the corridor. Peering into the room to his left, Marcus saw Ian searching through some desks.
