I think the phrase "just one more turn" comes from the civilization series.

My first time playing Civ 1, I got sucked in for 4 hours, which was an unprecedented length of time for me to be glued to a game in those days (MS DOS), when an NES would overheat after ~2 hours of continual play.

Civilization 2 and Alpha Centauri were amazing games for their time. Civilization IV is the pinnacle of the series so far, although Alpha Centauri is still the best in some ways if your a fan of science fiction.

Persona 3, where the best bits of turn-based combat and dating sim come together to create one powerful addiction...

The Total War series, it can get really bad for me, like staying up until 4-5AM, just taking yet another turn, vowing to stop after that.
Yeah definitely Rome Total War for me. You say one more turn, but then the enemy does something that you have to respond to absolutely right now and then you have missed all your lectures and the shops are shut so you can't buy food so you might as well just keep playing.

Also I downloaded Kerbal Space Program last night and spent several hours saying 'just one more rocket...'

Sims 3 does this to me if im not careful, since theres no real break in the flow with the families I set up and the constant wishes and goals, I end up thinking:

"one more wish, one more day, one more week, better get thier moods up before I leave, oh look more wishes well I might as well...."

and on and on and on!

Oh lets see here, well Skyrim is a huge contender here.

"Well that's those giants killed, time for bed."
"Oh wait there's a tower over there"

Several hours later

"Hmmmm, I have a serious problem"

The Final Fantasy Tactics games... but for so many different reasons... either:
  • 'Just one more mission, this one sounds short'
    or
'one more mission will probably get me that ability, then I can change characters equipment/job and i'll be happy'
    or finally
'I don't like leaving the game with a dispatched character... time to run around aimlessly until s/he returns... wait is that a random battle...? I love those!'

I always forget how long even the short fights can take! Especially in the Advance and A2 games where you could end up with a sucky law that makes everything last longer as you have to keep checking what you're doing!!

Then again my self control, especially before bed, is terrible... everything with a save point will make me carry on exploring around that savepoint after... sometimes I get lost exploring and before I know it am at the next savepoint/boss/event!

Diablo II and Borderlands did this to me constantly. I have learned that if my insomnia is around and bothering me I should never play those games since it normally turns out to be something like this, "Oh one more......*yawns*....God about time, what time is it any-WHAT?! I work in 3 hours!"

Any new pokemon game, and Skyrim as of late has done this to me.

I was like this with the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. Just one more dungeon... wait, it's WHAT time?!
Ah, yes. How many playthroughs of Red Rescue Team have I done? I lost count. Speaking of that generation of Nintendo games, how about Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Phantasy Star Online: Episodes 1&2 both for the GameCube? The latter is, in my opinion, absolutely addicting (even though I only play offline with my siblings) and you get to raise Chao [http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k199/solareala/neutral_chao_garden-1.jpg] in the former.

Speaking of which, my younger sister and I have been trying to breed a generational line into all-S graded Chao, and I need to figure out the best course of action for inter-breeding the five chao I have in the current generation. I'm thinking about keeping the three choicest offspring of the lot. It's really handy that Chao have no set gender and don't care about inbreeding, like at all. As a matter of fact, that can result in genetic superiority, as Chao are likely to take the better grades of both parents, and then you take two children and wow, what am I doing with my time?

Eh, everyone's got to have something, I suppose.
y'know PSO has a PC port with online play and extra content? it's still up and running on the Schthack servers. (i played it a ton on my GameCube too XD)

Football Manager, I say to myself just 1 hour and 6 hours later "Oh is that the time, one more game couldn't hurt" it's a vicious cycle. My addictedness rating is "Okay it's time to change your underwear"

Ever played the Arcade mode in a fighting game and got to the last boss, despite it being the wee hours into the morning and you have school/work/church/whatever the next morning?

I have.

I'm amazed nobody has mentioned Minecraft yet. Is it finally starting to lose it's grip on gamerkind?

"I'll just finish this lava moat... Oh wait, I need to add that part of the walls, too. Shit, and windows... I'll just go to the beach..."

For me, this will always be Missionforce: Cyberstorm. It's an old Dynamix game set in the Earth siege universe, where you lead squads of HERCS piloted by genetically engineered bioderm (read: cyborg) pilots against the forces of the Cybrids.

Maybe not the best turn-based tactical combat game ever made, but it's one of the ones I got the deepest into and had the most fun with. Try it out, if you can ever find a copy and have a high tolerance for Windows 95-era pixel graphics.

FF Tactics Advance. Getting that game back in grade 7 is likely why I've still got terrible sleeping patterns almost ten years later.
