Agreed, single players makes more sense in Firefly's case. Overall, I just don't think the Firefly universe is rich enough to support an MMO. Not that it wouldn't be cool. Fly out into the black, defend your ship from Reavers, side with the Alliance or go independent.
Overall I think a single-player game with online/local co-op would just work better. Maybe episodic?
Me, I'd rather play a Firefly FPS/adventure/RPG mix...
