It won't be centred around the main characters, but that won't stop the douchebags of the Internet from making a complete Mal look-alike, except their name will be something like 'mal_is_gay1123.' The horror.
I fear the roleplayers that will live out their fanfiction fantasies more.

Overall, I just don't think the Firefly universe is rich enough to support an MMO. Not that it wouldn't be cool. Fly out into the black, defend your ship from Reavers, side with the Alliance or go independent.

Overall I think a single-player game with online/local co-op would just work better. Maybe episodic?
Agreed, single players makes more sense in Firefly's case. Actually a space combat game might not make much sense either (if you want to remain faithful to the series you'd have to stick to rockets, machineguns and the soundlesness of space).

Me, I'd rather play a Firefly FPS/adventure/RPG mix...

For those who don't know it, the Firefly MMO will not be centered around Serenity or her crew, and you will not be able to play as any of the show's characters.
i'm a big fan of firefly and its universe, but i'll admit this is the first i've heard of an MMO (so i guess not THAT big haha). i couldn't understand how you could make an MMO from firefly, and if this quote is true then it makes even less sense. is everyone supposed to be former brown coats that have been reduced to smugglers? or you take sides, like you can be the alliance to hunt down people? it just doesn't seem to be the kind of scenario that lends itself to an MMO format.

the ideal video game would be to be a part of the serenity crew and travel around with mal and everyone. you get to interact with all the great characters and share in their adventures. the dialogue alone would make the game worthwhile.

after some thought, i hope the movie i canon. it's bittersweet with wash, but it gives great depth to the others, and river is an absolute badass. my only complaint is that jayne wasn't nearly as funny as he is in the series, but now i'm off topic.

I don't believe a Firefly MMO would relsove my blood thirst for the twats who axed the show. WHY!? Why do the good die young? And when in hell will crap like Home and Away and Neighbours die?!?

I'd like a Firefly game that WASN'T an MMO. Seriously, it'd be great fodder for a cinematic gaming experience, but how the heck to you capture the essence with grind quests and text that, in all honesty, I'm just going to skip over. Grab the cast, work some mocap, and use Serenity as the hub for a great single-player game, but don't kill it with the MMO kiss of death. That just cheapens it.
Agreed. I'd love a big immersive RPG. Elder Scrolls style maybe. Form a group of smugglers, or play as an Alliance crew member. You could do loads with it. But MMO? There'd be little point. No depth. Grind everywhere. I just can't see it working well.

Only problem I'd see with a Firefly MMO is with everyone wanting to be Captain Mal.
They wouldn't run it like that. They would make it more like LotR and you would be able to meet Mal (or maybe if you are a space merc he would train you...something like that).

It would be a very cool game and since there was only one season, Joss could actually grow the universe to whatever he wanted.

I also agree with everyone crapping on FOX. They blew it, once again, but canceling FireFly and I'm sure they will cancel other great shows in the future. What we need to do is start a group that buys the rights and then hires a director to take it over. Who wouldn't want to give 10 million to a group of gamers and enthusiasts? lol Even worse, who in their right mind would want to try and deal with everyone's damn opinions! NOT THIS GUY! :)
