from BEYOND THE GRAAAAAVE!!

*cough*
Well, I don't like asking for help much, it's not that I think I'm too good for it, it just makes me feel uncomfortable and that I'm taking up others time that would be much better spent on something they find enjoyable. But I just had a really good day, so I'm throwing my social anxiety out the window and doing this. Also GTA Online is out and ain't this a ***** for this to happen now.

I left my PS3 off for about a month, probably less. This is the only thing I can think of that happened. Now I get the DNS error code. I've tried custom DNS addresses, I've tried wired, wireless, reserved IP, changing numerous PS3 network settings, numerous router settings, lowering the firewall, and nothing has worked.

I have a laptop that connects just fine, so it's not the router or the connection. (Although something weird did happen, I just checked the router gateway page to grab a screenshot of the connected devices. Usually it says UNKNOWN Computer, which is my laptop, which it later identifies by it's name, and Serenity, my PS3. My laptop will show a green checkmark while Serenity shows a red X, showing that maybe it's being detected by the router. But today it's just gone.)

What I'm really worried about is that the hardware/network adapter/whatever is fried. Which is really bad because that is integrated into the motherboard, and replacing that is almost as much as buying a new used one.

So...is there anything I can try before I just settle on being offline?

Are you by any chance using Roadrunner [http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-Network-Support/Solution-for-your-DNS-error-80710102-problems-Works-for-all-ISP/td-p/13605550] as your ISP? Actually, your ISP doesn't matter according to that page.

Nope, Comcast. I looked at that page before, none of the solutions helped.

There's been two other issues with PS3s on the Advice Forum this week and I think you would be the first to actually benefit from option 4 of safe mode [https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1488/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xMzgwNDczODUyL3NpZC9HVzUqc3lCbA%3D%3D#activate]. Option 4 apparently stops just short of a full reformat. I would give that a try.

The nice thing about that link is there should be a prompt to contact someone via chat. I'm not sure if it's decent support or even support at all, but I think it will be worth it to check out option 4.

Hmmm, tried that, and it succeeded in obtaining an IP address, but it couldn't connect to the internet. The only thing that jumps out to me in the status page is that the NAT type identification failed. I'm guessing it's not the PS3's hardware anymore, since it wirelessly detected my router.

But it's still giving me the same error. Could it be an ISP thing?
