I have a question:
Logic would state that the government can only spend as much as it brings in. However, whenever something like a new war/ or peice of war machinery needs funding, the government magically pulls money out of it's ass to pay for it. Just like the bail out. However, When something like social security could use magic ass money, suddenly the rules of logic apply.
Does anyone know why?

because pulling money out of your ass is painful and would be better spent on blowing up others then looking out for amaricans. or at least that is what it seams like from the government.

Because it isn't magic. It causes inflation. Hence, sometimes inflation is worth it (tanks for a war), sometimes not (Johnny's new prosthetic ass)

Because they know they're gonna have to blow something up at some point, so they save up. Then they break open the 'blowing stuff up fund' jar when they need a new toy.
They just move around the vast amounts of money they play with, and then make it up on the taxes, and the debt money their still rakin in after the last war.

Because the magic money COMES from programs like Social Security, and from foreigners.

Take a leaf out of the Rolling Stones:
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, you get what you need

But about the social security vs war point (this isn't part of the song) putting money into war creates new jobs and contracts with other countries increasing trade. Putting more money into social security means it's just money thats been spent.

"Magic ass money."

I never thought I'd see those three words together in the same sentence. This thread just made my day.

And I thought this was going to be a thread about government employed wizards.

For that reason this thread deserves more daylight.

From the thread title I assumed this would either be about the economy or book burning.

Explain the book burning part.

Its just like the magic you use to get your house. Most young couples don't have 200k+ sitting around somewhere. You live in the house but you really don't "own" it. Then when you really own it. You are on your last bits of your life.

Its the same with the U.S. we pull our money from our friends with the promise we will pay them back. The difference between you and your home is that we don't, we just pay the interest on it. Wow, doesn't that sound similar to something that happened to homeowners in the past.

Because the American leadership is made up of rich white men who are a lot happier to put taxpayers in trillions of dollars of debt to line their own pockets than they are to give the lower classes any tools that might be used to help them escape from the exploitation of the higher classes.

Yeah, that's right, I'm bringing class politics into it. What of it?

From what I've been hearing, they pull it out of their ass by means of borrowing it from China.
No offense or anything in saying that, just that America is heavily indebted to them.

And I thought it would be about how Bush puts on pointy ears, grabs a sword he bought off the internet, and runs around the White House in 'cos play' mode throwing twenty sided die at his members of cabinet.

...it could happen.

On topic: I think the US is more likely to put more money into it's military because it's asserted itself as a military power on the global stage, and wants to make sure it's on the forefront of that technology. Whether that's a good or bad idea is up to the people, I think. Though most would probably think it's a bad idea (generally, since you don't want to IGNORE your country's military), especially at the expense of the people who make up the country in the first place.

Then again, I could be way off.

No, it couldn't. Bush has a hard time using the regular six-sided die. His mind would break if he so much as looked at a twenty-sided die.

While it is indeed magic, and indeed it is bullshit, it's the magicky bullshit of credit and debt...

The States borrow money from China since China's economy is better than that of the States. This leaves China holding lotsa power, until the States have a better economy than China. At this point the States loan money to China, so on and so forth. Balance of power and all that. Though to be honest, it'd be nice if rich folk stopped looking out for themselves and actually did something to strengthen the economy. The tactics above are a stall at best.
