Now over the past couple of days i`ve seen half a dozen different threads on singular reviews,so i figured it would be a half decent idea (though i suspect thia will go the way of the titanic)to create one thread for all reviews and discussion of aformentionned reviews
I`ll (desperatly) try to get the ball rolling
Guitar hero Metallica
Now i strongly suspect that half of the escapist could care less about a game about "A bunch of screamos" and the other half think "This is another cheap cash-in from the new kings of franchise milking" well you`re both probably right but i think it`s riotous fun with a few like minded metalheads around having said that prolonged exposeure to the game can lead to proper shouting matches if ever one of your band-mates gets a but too confident and tries expert + (i`ll cover the new features in a minute)so choose prospective band-mates wisely .
With that coverd i`ll give a breif summary of the new features,The most noticeable new feature is the improvements to career mode which now works by a song by song and star milestone method ,rather than World tour`s "One setlist at a time" method. This is an improvement i welcome.
another "new" feature and i`ve put "new" in brackets for a reason is a star tracker -meter-thingy. Now aficionados of the genre will note that this was debuted in the original rockband and depending on what kind of player you are is either a help or hinderance ,if you`re one of those "pro`s" that regularly put your "FC`s" up on youtube than this should be something of a godsend ,for the casual player however i suspect this will be just another piece of info to distract you from the colored (i spelt that yank way as i can`t spell it brit way)notes going down the highway .
Arguably the most important new feature however is the "Expert +" difficulty mode for dummers this requires a second bass pedal (which having pre-orderd the game i was lucky enough to get for free) to play and is highly likely to break your shins ,something odd i noticed though not all songs that should be double bass are ,for instance "Orion" is double bass yet "For whom the bell tolls ins`t which i find odd,in any case it gives the "pro`s" out ther something tougher to play.
Gameplay-wise very little has changed since the previous intinerations (mind you i don`t see how they can take the genre any further forward at this time) you still do the same thing, hitting colored gems as they head down the fretboard or singing if you prefer.
...Oh and before i forget the most important part of any rythm action game the setlist [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_Guitar_Hero:_Metallica] now most of the songs are perfectly chosen , giving a good balance between the hard rock metallica of the 90`s and the thrash gods of the 80`s (complete with 80`s skins!, though no Cliff or Newstead for those of you who like me are desperate to forget that anything after the black album ,right up until death magnetic ever existed)however some of my favorite songs (and indeed fan favorites) have been omitted by which i mean WHERE`S LEPER MESSIAH ,RIDE THE LIGHTNING ,CALL OF KUTHULU ,...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL,BLACKEND AND EYE OF THE BEHOLDER ACTIVISION!!!??? *deep breaths*.
One (HAH! one) last thing there is a few unlockables i have already mentionned the skins ,but there are also a handful of live videos (though only the orion and mercyful fate ones are any good)and the usual behind the scenes mo-cap stuff including ,most noteably Lars completly forgetting how to play the intro to one of my favorite songs
In conclusion i`d give the game an 8/10 the soundtrack is quite good ,the graphics fairly good, and there`s some decent fan service but bits are missing
Any comments on the review good ,bad, or utterly random appreciated as this is my first review
