So I enjoyed DayZ a lot and will probably buy it once it becomes a standalone game but for now I got very turned off by it over time by its many frustrating imperfections. The combat was very glitchy and movement and actions felt extremely clunky, as if the player had a bunch of bricks chained to each of their limbs.

To satisfy my interest in this type of game until DayZ can be released as a more refined game, I'm considering playing The War Z. What I'm interested in is people who have played it to give me their opinions on the game. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of the game but most of the negative feedback feels very biased and mostly useless, with people just angry at the game for "stealing DayZ's idea."

So my question, is The War Z worth my time? The price isn't really a concern to me ($25).

Note: I'm not interested any "The War Z is the worst game ever because it copied DayZ" responses. Give me something with some real reasoning please.

Would you say it is worth playing though? I'm not going to play DayZ anymore until it comes out as a refined standalone game regardless of whether or not I buy The War Z so I was more interested in a judgement of The War Z as a standalone game than comparisons to DayZ.

I haven't played it, i was considering it but now i'm not too bothered.

Really though, it just looks pretty much so far way too much like day Z to be worth the money.

I've already seen plenty of videos where people are hacking, the zombies in it seem to not be a threat at all, and it looks to me like you can easily find whatever you want.

Like i said, i haven't actually played it, but from the videos i've seen it looks like the movement is just as bad as it was in day Z, zombies aren't any better, and it looks to already have just as many hackers and people who treat it as a deathmatch game (as an effect of the zombies not being any problem).

The only positive thing that i've seen about war Z is that the graphics look very slightly better, and the gun shots sound nice and powerful, better than in day Z.

Advantages are: Global inventory: You can mass supplies. A load of characters: You are not stuck to the one with the Ghilie, for a stoopid supply run you can take one of the 5 you have. They will patch in a clan system that will make coordination of a group a little easier.
I read this and my brain went "Wait..so the advantage is that it takes one of the fundamental design decisions and makes it easier and less involved" The whole point being that every single thing in Day Z has risk and every item has value because of the difficulty and risk involved.

Now i'm not going to judge a game by one response, I do after all know literally nothing else about it..But if that is true then its advantage is that it is basically less fun for people who actually get why Day Z is fun because of the risk/reward of every action and the tension that comes from that, and more fun for those weird people who exist only to stockpile the best things and remove all challenge.

Thanks, I think I will end up trying it, I really liked the brutal 'kill or be killed' thing in DayZ so I doubt it will bother me much in The War Z. The encounters with other players I both feared and longed for, a very powerful feature of the game. The problem for me was that DayZ's combat really frustrated me so if The War Z can offer some nice feeling combat then it sounds good to me.

Also yeah I heard that the developers have been patching the game very frequently, which is awesome, I have high hopes for The War Z, hopefully I don't get let down!

I dunno, to me it seems more like they have sacrificed some of the realism for less frustration. For me the least fun part of DayZ was when you had all the crazy rare gear, I got discouraged from playing because I would no longer want to encounter other players but I would instead only fear them. I would hope that I would die soon so that I could start a new character. At least for me, the most fun I had with DayZ was the frantic scramble that would take place with younger characters, trying to find a weapon, outwit other players.

Day Z had a kind of global inventory as well, it was the tents and vehicles... Which sucked big times due to cheaters. I ran one Day Z server and we had the luck that a group hogged both vehicles with actual storage space in them and a few days later a group of cheater looted them (as in: Yes, the guys used some stuff to let all the countryside disappear and located both spots of the group).

War Z still has a lot of item value due to the fact that there are only 3 spots on the map where you can access the global inventory. On a full server there are always some guys who camp the entrance on at least one of them to get stuff.

Just to explain: There are by now 3 safe zones where you need to log out(!) toaccess your global inventory.

Also, as long as you aren't on a supply run where you give yourself only a melee weapon and run away there is always the risk of losing your weapons, ammunition and supplies when you give it to a character. The incentive to do that is that there are always player that have stuff and hunt others, you get really good stuff that way (my last encounter at least gave me enough ammuntion and full automatic weapons to get up to the characterwipe at the end of alpha).
The tent system isn't really like a safe zone or global inventory :/. There is basically no place on or off the map that somebody won't come and steal your stuff outta tents, even that was a risk, not just because the tent system was and probably still is bugged to hell and back(haven't played Day Z for the past few weeks, binged myself too hard and then decided to wait for it to have more content).

But yes, I was comparing that in War Z to the people who exist only to stockpile the best gear 'in tents and vehicles' and remove all challenge.

I honestly don't understand why people would waste time playing either. I uninstalled DayZ after 6 weeks. The zombies can easily be ignored and are pointless, the game is clunky, there is too much running, the PvP is all about laying down and waiting for someone to snipe at, it is boring game that has little value in the time you put in.

Getting Black Ops 2: Zombies and plan to spend the next year or two there. There's no persistent world, no pixel crack/god loot, just a tried and true formula with tight mechanics rolled into new game modes that should squeeze a lot more replay value into what was already a great side-game.
