Having never read a Terry Pratchett book, but having having seen multiple adaptations of Terry Pratchett books, I somehow can't help but assume that Pratchett is not a very good writer. I'm fairly sure that's unfair to the man but...why would I want to read something that gets adapted into such drivel.
I don't think I'd sit down and read a Pratchett novel any more, but that's partly because I've read a lot of them and they get samey. They're all good in their own right, and very creative, but for me it got to the point that you could see the jokes coming. But he was a very good writer.

I mean, I'd never read a Forgotten Realms book again, but that doesn't mean D&D is shit.

Edit: AFAIK, the Pratchett estate (well, his daughter) has disavowed the film as being more or less unrelated to the books.
