We have all played a game where, for at least one level, you have to go take a dip in some H2O and it differs from the rest of the game. From Sonic to Zelda and others the water level is either interesting, crappy, and/or terrifying. Leave your opinion on water levels and an example that explains your opinion.

The Syringe Gun is much better underwater, and demomen can't do much. (TF2)

It's also way easier to kill heavies as a scout.

I hate them.

In most games you have to worry about your breath other wise you drown and have to start over. And your movement is drastically reduce down as well, so swimming fells like a slow process.

Well thats what I fell about them.

Sonic - Hydrocity = Awesome

Zelda - Water Temple = Pain in the ass

Half-Life - Fish... thing = Scary as hell (at least I thought so).

The water temple in Tombi 2/Tomba 2 was pretty awesome and they eventually gave you a suit so you could easily swim through it.
It had great music too.

The water temple in Ocarina of Time s my only experience. It was a good experience, I thought it was cool and please don't quote me complaining about changing the boots. I've never understood why he felt it so important to apologize for that.

Water levels...
one instance I recall would be the abundance of water in the Wake Island map in Battlefield 2
good luck trying to swim across from artillery island to the mainland.

but yeah the only other water level I can remember is from the Mario game
which I remember hating but not much else

Honestly, I despise water levels. This may be due to my fear of water. I remember feeling very panicky during one of the early Sonic games where the water level was rising and you had to jump up a tunnel thing.

I find when dealing with water fights in WoW I usually hold my breath unconsciously when under water, and have difficulty dealing with a 3D environment.

I just don't like them.

In Jak III when you went in the water, that creepy fish thing kills you! I hated that...

I only really remember water levels in Mario and Donkey Kong and I'm neutral abot the ones in Mario but think the Donkey Kong ones were great.

Though I guess I'm one of the few people who liked the OoT Water Temple, usually I detest water levels. The underwater sections in the God of war games were downers, hitting the water with no boat in sight in Just Cause 2 sucks, the underwater level in We Love Katamari was my least favorite and blitzball was just plain annoying. My only other exception would be the 7th Colossus.

I thought so too, swimming around like a maniac trying to get away.

I bloody hate them. No exceptions. As far as I'm concerned they're always the absolute worst part of any game that they're in. Swimming: annoying. Wading: really slow and annoying. Having to surface for air: tedious, and actually proper nightmare fuel if you get that music like in the old Sonic games.

Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 1 was pretty mean, but Scrap Brain Act 3 was fucking brutal.

TMNT the dam level...oh fuck off.

I didn't mind the Water Temple as much since beating it was actually very satisfying and it wasn't as bad the second time around.

The absolute worst one for me was God of War and if you've played it you know the exact part that I'm talking about since I died on that one stupid section more than any other part of the game.

I find water levels exhausting in most games. It could either be the restricted movement, general blue colour or the programmers seeming need to make them harder than most of the other dungeons.

They're not fun for me, I suppose, just challenging.

The swimming bits in resistance 2 had me jumpy as hell trying to get across before i got attacked by those fish things.

I find water annoying sometimes. I guess it doesnt really count but in BF-1942 theres a map where the americans spawn aboard carriers but everyone always steals the landing craft and drive off. Its a pain in the ass having to swim and thats if you dont get hit by artillery or a rogue plane driver that just got in it for the lulz

Armored Core water. My least favorite of all. If your foot so much as broke the surface of the water you sank to the bottom and instantly died.

Terrifying. Water levels are probably why I'm afraid of oceans. The second stage of level 2 and all of level 3 were always the worst parts of Sonic 2, along with that terrible countdown timer. If I ever die of drowning that'll probably be the last thing I hear in my head.

However they're basically mandatory for FPS games IMO, owing to their ability to allow free z-axis control and can give a lot more freedom of movement to the player. Red Faction was a good example of this back in the day, and it was nice because you had a space suit on so there wasn't an imposed time limit.

First water level I ever encountered in gaming was Maridia in Super Metroid. ...I...hate...fucking...Maridia. Ever since then, water levels have scared the crap out of me.
