Rosa slept on Dan's chest an dreamed of a nonexistant past and present. She dreamed that Simon and her had never been kidnapped, that the wave never came. They had married and moved down to Virginia where Rosa bore a child when she was of 26 years of age. A beautiful girl with extremly pale blue eyes and nearly white skin. They named her by the name of Simon's own ancestor, Alexandria. They both watch, happily, as their child grew into a smart young girl with rich, purple eyes, brunette hair, and her mother's kind disposition. She was adored at school for looking beautiful, unlike Simon, who was abused for looking strange. She grew up, happily and was a smart young child. She and Simon watched her grow to be eight years old, happily together. She stayed on one scene of her and a six year old Alexandria walking through a field in rural Virginia, her small hand in hers. Alexandria spoke, "Mama, why is my skin white?" Rosa smiled at her daughter. "Because Daddy's skin is white." "But Mama's skin isn't..." Rosa thought about it. "You just got lucky, Alexandria." She smiled at her daughter. "Is Daddy the reason my eyes are purple too, Mama?" Rosa smiled. "Yes, why?" Alexandria's face sunk. "I don't like it..." She started crying. Rosa bent down and put her hand on one of Alexandria's shoulders. "What's wrong, Alexandria?" Alexandria looked at her mother, her face covered in tears. "Why am I different, Mama? Why can't I be like the other kids? Like Mama?" Rosa frowned and hugged her daughter. "What's wrong with looking different?" She asked. Alexandria wrapped her small arms around her mother's neck. "I-It feels like they t-treat me different... Th-They don't wanna play games with me and instead leave the game area all to myself... Th-They move o-out of my way like I was a p-princess, but at the same time, like I wasn't one of them... Why do they move?" Rosa started crying with her daughter. "I-I don't know... People don't know how to deal with new things, so they work against it..." Alexandria's grip tightened. "But, Mama... Th-That's not fair..." Rosa rubbed the back of her child's hair to comfort her. "I-I know it's not fair... B-But Mama and Daddy are always here... We won't judge you... We love you with all our hearts..." Alexandria nuzzled her head on her mother's shhoulder. "Mama..." She said, sadly and kept crying. Rosa picked Alexandria off the ground and walked her back to their car that they had driven in to get to the field. They drove home, Alexandria crying the whole way.
Rosa was crying on the outside, in her sleep.
