Mechty Dorfloum stepped out from behind the shipping crate in the small, privately owned warehouse off the main concourse. It seemed that the smugglers had done well in getting the living cargo onto the station without notice from the authorities, and just as well for them, with the price of the service.
Herded by a few black-smocked workers, Mechty drifted out of a back door along with the human refuse who had shared the container, ignoring the adjustment official who had been brought in to make sure the new residents would blend in, and shuffled off towards the nearby thoroughfare, pausing only to query a nearby resident in a grating, mechanical voice as to the whereabouts of the so-called "Red Giant Café". Satisfied with the stuttered directions, the brightly-armoured enigma slid out of the side passage and down the busy corridor, carelessly nudging a child aside, face-first into a wall.
Mechty had a purpose, and no gutter urchins would get in the way. Although, it could hardly hurt to report the corrupt official for a few more credits. And maybe sell out the company who handled the illicit transportation.
A thought suddenly occured to Mechty. Why in the bloody Verge did I not just book a regular transport? No matter, the here and now was the important thing.
