You know how there are good franchises with REALLY bad entries? Well in this thread we will cover the shit entries, and dissect what went wrong with them. I will start us off with:
Gamera the Brave
What came before: Gamera would never strike anyone as a character that could have a successful film series behind him. It came as a surprise, then, that the 90s brought not one, but three really good Gamera films. This trilogy was for the Gamera franchise what the Chris Nolan films were for Batman. By pile driving the tone so far into the dark, rewriting Gamera's entire origin story, and giving the title monster a character arc spanning all three movies proving just what the turtle needed to break out of its rut.
What we got after: After the Gamera films expectations were high for Gamera the Brave, which promised to continue the tone of the Gamera trilogy of the 90s.
What went wrong: Unfortunately the movie also wanted to be a call-back to the Showa era of Gamera films and brought all that entails with it. The resulting film was an absolute mess of clashing tone, shitty cinematography, and terrible plot. I think the final battle puts all of that on display:
The fuck was that? I mean, compare that to this from Gamera 3:
That is a helluva quality downgrade.
Your turn.
